someone who is hard one the outside but totally sensible inside.always covers this. makes the one who they love feel like they dont need them at all cuz they're scared of beeing under the thump of that person. thats what the song expresses to me al least

by transparenteyeball on 12-14-2005 @ 02:25:05 PM Do you think the bit about 'the line will unfurl could be about him turning to cocaine or some other snortable drug to forget the pain he's going through? some people on here are too obsessed with songs being about drugs.

i think this song is about breaking up where the other party is pretending to be hurt ...but its actually Brian who is ... Lay me down, the lie will unfurl lay me down to crawl. its like if you lay me down on the floor you will know exactly who will crawl & the one crawls is the one who is broken . beautiful...the break up probably happened becoz of infidelity ... Don't go and lose your face at some stranger's place and don't forget to breathe and pay before you leave its a wonderful song

Yes, this is almost certainly a breakup song. The music is fucking CREEPY. The candences make me shiver.

I think Brian said once that 'smile would make me sneeze' was a reference to really disliking someone to the point where you were allergic to them, and, it seems, even their expressions

I think it has something to do with a one-night stand maybe with a virgin maybe not. I'm thinking it'd be a virgin because he says, "don't lose your face." So I think maybe he convinced her to sleep with him and then later he is telling her what a mistake she made and he only wanted her for sex. Another totally contrary thought is that it might be about prostitution though I'm not too convinced with this idea.

I love this song, it's a perfect end to such an amazingly good album. My favourite line in the song is 'Your smile would make me sneeze when we were siamese'. Although I'm not sure whether I've put the right meaning to it, my interpretation is that when he was with the person he loved before they left ('...when we were siamese'), their smile was like a ray of sun ('Your smile would make me sneeze'). Because the sun makes you sneeze, right? Anyway, good song. No matter how my music tastes change, I always have a soft spot and a lot of respect for Placebo.
