SONG TO SAY GOODBYE
KEY OF G#
(Chord shapes respective to capo on 2nd fret are F#m A E , D and G#. Easiest to play with a capo here)
G#m B F# (F#m A E)
You are one of God's mistakes.
You crying, tragic waste of skin.
I'm well aware of how it aches.
And you still won't let me in.
Now I'm breaking down your door,
to try and save your swollen face.
Though I don't like you anymore
you lying, trying waste of space.
E (D)
Before our innocence was lost
you were always one of those
B A# (A G#)
blessed with lucky 7s,
and the voice that made me cry.
G#m B F# (F#m A E)
My oh my.
G#m B F# (F#m A E)
You were mother nature's son.
Someone to whom I could relate.
You're needle and your damage done,
remains a sordid twist of fate,
now I'm trying to wake you up,
to pull you from the liquid sky.
Cause if I don't we'll both end up with just your song to say goodbye.
G#m B F# (F#m A E)
My oh my.
A song to say goodbye,
A song to say goodbye,
A song to say,
E (D)
Before our innocence was lost
you were always one of those
B A# (A G#)
blessed with lucky 7's,
and a voice that made me cry.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.
It's a song to say goodbye.

| This song is amazing. "Because I want you" is a poor poor Placebo song; yet this one stands head and shoulders above it. I think this song is about a converted drug addict, who's friend helped him get off drugs, but has now fallen into them, thereself, and basically the guys saying, hey I've been there why didn't you let me help you? But maybe the other person is too proud? I'm not sure. The use of irony is great though. Welcome back Placebo | |

| I dont know much about placebo but may be its about being gay?? i dont know , but certainly has some relations to drugs. When i first saw the video I could'nt exactly get the lyrics and i thought that it was like putting oneself as a parent to the place of one's child, second watch i thought that it was about the insecure adult of the twentyfirst century, and now what others mean is sensible but still i can't fully relate to the video. Lucky sevens, it means lucky , as an idiom but does it have a different meaning too, maybe they can relate, i dont know... I love the tune of the song, its the classical edge of the soul feeling of placebo, i likeed it from the first time... Enjoy it... | |

| OMG the video clip is awesome, this kid is a fantastic actor and so is the crazy father figure, brilliant brilliant clip. ANYHOO I can see a definite relation musically and lyrically to 'Because I Want You' but as commented this is by far better in depth and its just a more polished sound and clearer idea. I agree, the clip involved a child supporting his father who had done drugs or some such and in the end the kid just had to give the father aware for his own sake. So im my opinion its sung from the supporter of a druga abuser who just can't help anymore. and the lucky sevens refers to the singer thinking that the abuser had a lucky and carefree life (seven is a lucky number). | |

| Well. In the interviews Brian talks lots about getting older etc... I think the big hint to this lyric is found in the video. A boy driving (leading and controling) a car. In the last scen he is not! | |

| I think he means that the person was always a lucky bastard but yet despite that he has still ended up fucked up. There's always those people who fall in a bucket of shite and come out smelling of roses, so although he was his mate i sense he could have been a bit jealous of this person, but not anymore just feels pity. | |

| nancy boyo i highly doubt that this will be Placebo's final album, because at the Wembley gig Brian even commented: "many people think because we've released a singles album that we're finished; but its not true. This is just the beginning." So I think Placebo have a lot left in them yet. Their dysfunctionalities as a band help them to get on and make amazing music. There is no clash of personalities because Brian fronts it and Steve and Stefan are happy. Lets hope they stick around for a long time yet. | |

| I may be a nirvana psycho, i can't really tell and it's been quite a long time since i listened to a nirvana record, BUT the second verse really reminds me of kurt cobain. And well, Neil Young is alive, right? Thus, I don't believe that song is for him. | |

| What i mean is that its not nessecary a song about someone Brian knows, it could be about himself!? I don't know but i get the impression that the song is an attempt to sum up things. | |

| When I hear this song and listen to the lyrics I can't help but feel that this is somewhat connected (at least theme/lyrically) to 'Commercial for Levi'. The way I interpret the song is that it generally is about someone who takes to much drugs and the person in the song doesn't really like them anymore, but feels obligated somehow to help this person. This obligation may be commected with the 'You were Mother Nature's son. Someone to whom I could relate.'-part of the lyrics. They were friends but their friendship deteriorated, perhaps because of drugs. I think Brian included the Neil Young phrase to reveal that it really is about drugs and how it fucks a lot of things up. My 10 cents... | |
