| This seems obvious but I think it's about drugs - the highs and the comedowns "you take the beating". | |

| two questions: 1) why does he say "every children"--it's a glaring grammatical messup so i thought there might be some sort of connotation to it? 2) "Me-he"? | |

| I think this song is about religion. That's what Brian means when he says "the light". When you think of all the world's religions and how a lot clash, it does seem to divide everyone in the end. "every mink walks two by two" is obviously referencing Noah's ark and "we gamble to be born again" is speaking of reincarnation, I believe. "Any means in your horizon Heaven in a tourniquet" If it makes you feel better go ahead and believe in it. "The after life to keep your eyes on" Everyone's just worried about where they go when they die anyway. "bitter pill you take you take today" For some people, all this religion stuff can be scary -OR- they are forced to believe in it, just like Brian was. "With expert levitation forward, polished to the nth degree" They try to make it seem so perfect, but when looked at how it ends up affecting the world, it really isn't (ergo, the chorus) | |

| This song does seem to have the drugs/religion slant but I always thought it was comparing the two and saying that he's probably not going to go to heaven so fuckit, he's going to make his own with drugs. "Afterlife to keep your eyes on/bitter pill we take today-" I can only think bitter pill is ecstacy seeing as it's pretty much the bitterest tasting pill around. The light (religion) defines people's lives or divides them-good people believe in religion, have pure lives, bad people end up not believing in religion and filling up the emptiness with drugs. This is all in addition to what dragonkat said though because that all makes tonnes of sense. | |

| Bongarus.....you took the exact words out of my mouth... except minks were/are hunted in europe, and nearly extinct, so maybe thats about the harm people are doing to the earth, hence the songs title. also i think this is a referance to Noahs arc. ... ***when brian introduces this song he sometimes says :this is a song about wishing for all the things you never had", i think its a song too about being, 'allergic' to the things close to you. allergic to the drugs that came from mother earth. allergic to people close to you. this is one of my favourite songs...im getting it tattooed on my wrist!!! cant wait | |

| I think you guys are putting more of a religion-slant on the song than is necessary. Don't forget, its by Brian, not Peter Popoff. Instead of a song about religion, I see this more as a song about drugs, where he uses religion as a metaphor. Here's why: "Any means in your horizon Heaven in a tourniquet" any means, reminds me of commercial for Levi, doing anything available to him to medicate feelings (heaven in a tourniquet - tourniquets can save lives, but usually are only used in extreme situations, such as life threatening injuries. so maybe he's saying his life is so screwed up that he needs a tourniquet , drugs, which make him not feel the pain and get him "to heaven" but are killing him at the same time "The after life to keep your eyes on bitter pill you take you take today" worried today's actions will have consquences later on, but you feel you can't do anything about it YET (bitter pill) "With expert levitation forward, polished to the nth degree," im not sure about this part. Levitation, flying/floating, maybe that has something to do with being high or ascending. polished to the nth degree - I think he is making a reference to the fact that he has been refining his drug use for a long time (nth degree.. just going on and on and on) "it takes it's smile from every children, you take the beating." Drugs have a way of destroying innocence (or taking smiles from children, if you will), taking the beating sounds like either a come down (like someone else already mentioned) or maybe just low self esteem and depression for not being able to get a handle on his addiction "Every mink walks two by two" This does sound like a noah reference, but why would he pick a Mink of all animals? I don't know why. "we gamble to be born again You know I never wanted to" I don't think this is reincarnation, I think he means he is gambling with taking drugs that make him feel alive (gambling his life that is.. and that isn't how he wanted it to be) divining - showing you the way, saying religion guides you defining - it also tells you the way you should act and live your life dividing - the biggest problem, maybe in the world? religion divides all kinds of people all kinds of ways. more people have died in religious wars than anything else. (Trouble in the middle east!) Also this song is called Allergic (To thoughts of Mother Earth) maybe he is saying he is allergic, or , having an averse reaction, to the way things are naturally.. in an unmedicated state. | |

| From interview: Q: Can you tell me what 'Allergic' is about? Brian: Well that's one of the songs on the album that isn't really a love song. It's a kind of environment versus religion song. It's me having a go at Christians for not giving a shit about the environment basically because to them their rewards will always be in heaven and not on this earth so it really doesn't matter that we're using this place as a fucking garbage tip, you know. And when I first started writing songs I had to shake the spectre of Jesus out of me so I wrote a lot of sort of like' I'm angry about God' songs and it didn't really kind of you know I had to get that out of my system before we started the band really. But it's kind of crept up on me in this... in 'Allergic' you know. It's just kind of having a go really but it's also kind of like saying, you know, that Mother Earth, you know, Mother Nature, is stronger than you and Mother Nature will have her own back. | |

| to me it's Brian's comment on a christian upbringing in his wry way: "expert levitation forward polished to the nth degree" reminds me of slick American evangelists,I'm sure Brian had first hand experience of this kind of guy. The mink walking two by two is brilliant - obviously it's Noah's ark, but why mink? Two possibles comes to me: a) mink are a pest in Europe, so God in his foreknowledge chose to save a creature which would become a bloody nuisance b) God thoughtfully provided spoilt human females with a source of fur coats. The divining/defining/dividing chorus is great too, says it all but in an understated way. A much underrated song to me. | |

| i think this song is about how people interprite each religion and how different people can think and act 'Any means in your horizon Every mink walks two by two' how seperate people are to each other but all want the same thing although in this part of the song 'The after life to keep your eyes on bitter pill you take you take today' is about his drug use and how thats what the effect of drugs have on you to want to end it all and the bitter pill is the poison, hey just my opinion think your own way lol xx | |

| Silly people. It's definately a drug song. Brian was very into drugs at the time it was written. A tourniquet refers to the belt (or whatever you choose to use) that you tighten around your arm when shooting heroin. Ecstasy is a bitter pill. "We gamble to be born again" - drug users are fully aware of the dangers of drugs, but take the risk for the pleasure they get out of them. "Don't let me down" may refer to him never wanting to come down. For all you religious people out there: that's when the drugs wear off and you feel the exact opposite as you did when you were high: like shit | |
