I've been looking everywhere for this song and I
couldn't find it, so I decided to get off of my
lazy bum and do it myself. I think it sounds good enough.
E-mail me if you find out how to do this any better:

Planes Mistaken for Stars
Copper and Stars
Tabbed by: Clark
Standard Tuning
There's two guitars in this song.
It's impossible to play it right with one guitar.
I'm not sure what guitar does what part, so do which ever ones you want.
:intro after silence:
guitar one
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|---------------------------------------------------------
D|--3-3--3-3---7-7--7-7---5-5--5-5---5-5--5-5--------------x2
A|--3-3--3-3---7-7--7-7---5-5--5-5---5-5--5-5--------------
E|--1-1--1-1---5-5--5-5---3-3--3-3---3-3--3-3--------------
harmonic part (i think guitar 2 does this)
:play these harmonics in between the breaks in the power chords above:
e|--7-7-7--5---7-7-7--5---7-7-7--5---7-7-5-7--------------
B|--7-7-7--5---7-7-7--5---7-7-7--5---7-7-5-7--------------
G|--7-7-7--5---7-7-7--5---7-7-7--5---7-7-5-7--------------- x2
D|---------------------------------------------------------
A|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
Ok if you listen close, theres bending/vibrato at the same time harmonics are
played. This is as close as I came to getting it right. Just mess with it
a little.
(i think this is guitar one)
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|-4h5p4-5~~~---4h5p4-------4h5p4-5~~~----4h5p4-4-----------
D|-------------------5~~~------------------------5~~------- x2
A|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
Little solo part after intro
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|---4h5-4--repeadedly---------------------------------------
D|-----------------------5^^^---on last one-------------------
A|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|--5/7--75--5/9--97--75--5--5/7--75--54--let-ring------
D|------------------------------------------------------5----
A|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
then do the repeated thingy again
then repeat the intro with power chords & harmonics (x2) and more of
guitar 2 doing a solo in the background. I havent figured that out yet, sorry.
Then, we have the palm muted power chords, which are the same as in the intro.
Some slight variations.
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|---------------------------------------------------------
D|-5-5-5---3------7-7-7---5--------------------------------(x2)
A|-5-5-5---3-x12--7-7-7---5-x12----------------------------
E|-3-3-3---1------5-5-5---3--------------------------------
PM.....................................................................
then this, clean
e|---------------------------------
B|---------------------------------
G|------5-5-5-5--------------------
D|------5-5-5-5------------------
A|------3-3-3-3-------------------
E|--------------------------------
Then do the palm muted part six more times as hes singing.
"wasting wishes oooooooon".... and then this clean
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|--5-------7---------------------------------------------
D|--5-x14---7-x7-----------------------------------------
A|--3-------5---------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
when he sings "copper and starrrrrrsss", repeat intro with both guitars
when he starts "im wantin, you to, save me..." the intro power chords stay
the same, but the harmonics/solo thing changes a little.
I think its the same as
the part after the little solo thing.
Then as hes singing "im breakin down" over and over do this clean
with some slight variations at times. The other guitar does something
else with distortion here but i havent made that out either.
e|---------------------------------------------------------
B|---------------------------------------------------------
G|------4-5--------------------------------------------------
D|---5------------------------------------------------------
A|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------
The end gets a little weird, and I havent figured it out yet.
If you havent noticed, a lot of this song is the same riff
done differently, ex.: the solo, and the vibrato part.
Im sure that the ending is some combination
of the 4-5 on the G string and 5 on the D.
You can try and figure it out for yourself.
Like I said, I couldn't find anyone else who did
this song yet, so I tried my best at it.
Good Luck!

| Yeah I saw them a couple of months ago. Some guy asked if they would play either Copper and Stars or The Past Two and they said no. From the stage. It sucks ass. | |

| I love this song so much... Me and my friend Nick listened to it over and over in the car once trying to see who could sing "Copper adn Staaaaaaaars" the longest. I love their old stuff... AHHH. But I went to see them play a few nights ago and I was thouroughly dissapointed. I have no clue what their new stuff is... it sounded like crap... I was so sad. I almost cried! Then the whole crowd started chanting "copper and Stars, Copper and Stars" and they were like "ok for you guys we will.......... Play a new song" It was so dissapointing. I wish they could go back to their old Copper and Stars days... OOOHHH Division is good too. | |
