Plus-44 is an electronica-based band from blink-182 members Mark Hoppus ( bass and vocals) and Travis Barker ( drums and keyboards). Plus-44 also features Carol Heller ( guitar and vocals), formerly of Get The Girl. The name Plus-44 is a reference to the international dialing code for the United Kingdom, where Hoppus and Barker first discussed the new project. By September 2005 the band had recorded 16 songs and is expected to finish recording in the following months. At first the band was supposed to release their debut album in fall of 2005, but due to Travis' busy schedule with the Transplants (who broke up at the end of the Warped Tour) the release of the CD will be sometime in 2006. There have been rumors lately that Plus-44's debut album will be called "Break the Record". In the April edition of the Alternative Press magazine Mark stated that the group will release their debut album on Interscope records.
When Mark was asked about the development on Plus-44's sound in an interview on November 14, 2005 he stated "Well the sound of Plus-44 is still developing right now. Right now to me it sounds like punk rock meets '80s synth rock, meets...all different kind of influences are in there. I mean, there are songs where it's like a hip hop beat with electric guitar over it or like a really trance-y beat with keyboards on top of that, and some are just straight forward rock songs. We have like three or four songs now that are pretty much done and a lot more songs that are just ideas and even more to write. So we're really just getting started on the recording process and we'll see what ends up like at the end. Right now it's really diverse, really all over the place and schizophrenic, which is a good thing."
Plus-44 released their first song, entitled "No It Isn't", on their website on December 13th - the same day as the scheduled release of the first Angels and Airwaves material, the band recently formed by Tom Delonge. This Song was taken down after a countdown on the website. The countdown was apparently meant to be for a new song to be released, although, much to the dissapointment of many avid fans, no second song has been released to this date.
