We both lie silent and still in the

We feel miles apart inside
G Cadd9
Was it something I said or something I did?

Did my words not come out right?

Though I tried not to hurt you

Though I tried

But I guess that’s why they say
G Cadd9
Every rose has its thorn
G Cadd9
Just like every night has its dawn
G D C G
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
G D C
Every rose has its thorn

Yeah it does

G Cadd9
But I wonder, does he know?
G Cadd9
Has he ever felt like this?

Every rose has its thorn

Just like every night has its dawn

Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song

Every rose has its thorn

(if memory serves, the power chords on this fill are the same:

(listen to the song to get the strumming pattern right here:
it’s something like down down up down I think, at least when I
play it that way it sounds pretty cool)

(chords before this last verse: G, Cadd9, G, Cadd9)

G
I know I could’ve saved our love that night if I’d
Cadd9
Known what to say
G
Instead of making love,
Cadd9
We both made our separate ways

And now I
G Cadd9
Hear you found somebody new
G Cadd9
And that I never meant that much to you
D
To hear that tears me up inside
C
And to see you cuts me like a knife

I guess
G Cadd9
Every rose has its thorn
G Cadd9
Just like every night has its dawn
G D C G
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
G D C
Every rose has its thorn

(at ‘ways’) I’m not sure who plays this bit…
e-----------------------------------
b-----------------------------------
g-----------------------------------
d-----------------------------------
a------------8/11--9--6/8--11--8----
E--------------------------------9--

C.C. plays this next bit over the last verse and chorus. Listen
to get the timing right!

e------------------------9-------9-------------7--6------9-------------
b--10b--9--7--/9----10b----10b-----10b---7~~--------10b-----10b---7~~--
g----------------------------------------------------------------------

b-------------9b--7~~---------7--9--7-----10b--10b-----10b--7~~---6--7--7s--
g-----------------------6--8------------------------------------------------
d---------------------------------------------------------------------------
a---------------------------------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------

And Bret plays this on acoustic at the end (its a G)

e-------------------3----
b-------------------3----
g-----------0-------0----
d--------0----0----------
a-----2------------------
E--3---------------------

The lyrics, "BUT NOW I HEAR YOU FOUND SOMEBODY NEW / AND THAT I NEVER MEANT THAT MUCH TO YOU / TO HEAR THAT TEARS ME UP INSIDE / AND TO SEE YOU CUTS ME LIKE A KNIFE" are (by far) the best lyrics of the whole song. It's a song about the dumpee...the one who's left with the broken heart, and even when they're over that person, it hurts to hear about them now because they've moved on and forgotten about you.

As a staunch glam fan, and being obsessed with Queen, it took me a while to get hooked on Poison hearing only their thin bits of rock about sex. I went immediately to the record store when I first heard "Every Rose..." I'm but sixteen years old, and hearing "A dreaded 80's group" (as my family so puts it) be so emotional really opened my horisons from The Who, Queen, and STYX
