| Sting actually talks about the origin of the song in his book, "Broken Music." He was playing in France. He took the side entrance to his hotel past an alley where prostitutes were plying their trade. As he walked up to his room, he found a poster for the play "Cyrano de Bergerac" on one of the hotel's walls. (Roxanne, of course, is the heroine of the play). He combined the two themes. | |

| i really like the song and i agree it's about a guy who falls in love with a prostitute. even though the cover of it's not that great, i think the song really fits in "moulin rouge" cuz that's basiclly the theme of the movie. | |
