LYRICS:
(First verse:)
Giant steps are what you take walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break walking on the moon
We could walk forever walking on the moon
We could be together walking on, walking on the moon
(Second verse:)
Walking back from your house walking on the moon
Walking back from your house walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound walking on, walking on the moon
(Bridge:)
Some may say I'm wishing my days away
No way and if it's the price I pay
Some say tomorrow's another day
You stay I may as well play
(Repeat first verse)
(Repeat bridge)
(Ad-lib:)
Keep it up
[repeat and fade]

| Certainly, the album's two major classics, 'Message In A Bottle' and 'Walking On The Moon,' overshadow almost everything else in terms of songwriting quality and epic stance. They're overplayed for sure, or maybe they're not overplayed (they should be anyway), but who gives a damn when both of them are solidly in the Top 10 New Wave songs ever written? Copeland's drumming on 'Walking On The Moon' alone is able to guarantee the song absolute immortality, but when it's coupled with Summers' magic chord (the echoey 'BA-ba-m-m-m-mmmm...' that is repeated throughout the song, yet I can never get enough of it) and Sting's high vocals, it reaches complete perfection. And 'sending out an S.O.S.'? Hmm? [George Starostin] | |

| Being in love is so magical, we never want it to stop. It's like walking on the moon, or even better. Still, we know it's dangerous, because when it ends we can end up with a broken leg (heart). That's my take on this song. I agree with the other comments, specially with apcmdn13. | |

| I think that "walking on the moon" is being high. When it says "some may say, im wishing my days away" it's talking about how people think that he is wasting his life away with drugs " no way". When it says "walking back from your house, walking on the moon" it reminds me of when i take walks when im high and makes me picture like a rainy night at like 11:00 walking on a road with trees on both sides, fairly windy but warm, and not too many houses around. It makes me think of when i sometimes go walking in this like subdivision near where i live. The image and feeling it congers up are so cool and i love listening to this song, especially when im high. It really trips me out after i smoke some weed if i listen to it in my house when nobody else is home. It is truly an awesome song and it reminds me of wonderful times ive had walking on the road at night when its raining. thats what i think at least | |
