| There's so much correct stuff mentioned here, so I just want to discuss the points I do not agree with you. Paranoid schizophrenea? I don't think so. Rather he tries to live a normal live, but he is aware ("I got wiring loose inside my head") of his dark side, which he cannot control ("taking over me") This is actually confirmed in the second and third verses, too: "walk in the woods and I will TRY": he does not WANT to rape people... "Should be so beatiful if we can": I believe "we can" actually means "I can", like 'if I can (could) resist'. The books he never read COULD mean the same (I'm not sure). He has books, so other people think he's very sophisticated. The reality is that he does not read them at all, a metaphore for his, I'd call it 'second life' (where he's a rapist). The only thing I dont get is "Swim with me into your blackest eyes". It might be the most important line, though, as it refers to the title. Perhaps It means that he looses himself when he sees a beatiful girl?? Oh yeah, and the "Place were all my dreams are dead", thats also his darker self, when he's obeying his animalic instinct, so his 'dreams' (dreams as a difference between animals and human beings here) are gone, he is not acting like a human anymore... I think that all makes a lot of sense, but, It's only my opinion... critical comments allowed... | |

| I will attempt to explain the lyrics of In Absentia from my point-of-view. Naturally, these are not writ in stone. I are not that clever. Please let me know what you think. If you look at the cover, an immediate morbid-feeling is exuded from the album. Looking at the cd itself conveys this. The person on the front looks dead, yet is alive. A lot of serial killers (as is the basis of this semi-concept album), feel this way, this dichtomoy that causes a friction that results in them commiting heinous crimes. The frist lines tell of this killer's childhood. Many domineering mothers have been linked to the mindset of their son's mental disorders later in life. The likes of Gein come to mind. His nerves feeling energy that he has to let out; as i said, they don't feel right in their own skin (watch the movie or read the book called "taking lives" by Pye to understand). But, the second vese is something of a dilemma. It seems more paedophillic, but in a way, maybe he lures his victims into the woods and then kills them. What exaclty he's "trying in the woods" is something else entirlely. i will let you use ur imaginations to discover what it is that makes her cry (her crying seems to turn the killer on). The third verse only takes this further, by showing that he is one of the adaptive types. He even murders in his van (he moves around a lot - this relates to the song Heartattack in the Layby, later). The chorus is the running commentary that he has in his head all the time. There are signs of paranoid and conversion schizophrenea - two things used to justify the the insanity plea. Insanity is a legal term by the way, not one that shud be used to easily. Schizophrenea is also mistakenly associeated with DID, Disassociative Identity Disorder, also known as Multiple Personality Disorder. The reason for this come from the name schizophreneas, which means "split mind" and the hated media coined the term synonymously with DID. Its called split mind becos a person thoughts are split, jumping from one thing to another, usually out of context with reality. Sorry for that little rant. im a deuche. anways, on to the next song we go!!! | |
