Amaj13: x01222
Fmaj7: xx3210
Em: 022000
You keep me waiting
You keep me alone in a room full of friends
You keep me hating
You keep me listening to the Bends
No amount of pointless days
Can make this go away
You have me on my knees
You have me listless and deranged
You have me in your pocket
You have me distant and estranged
No narcotics in my brain
Can make this go away
(A)
I'm sorry that
(Amaj13) (Fmaj7) (Em)
I'm sorry that I'm not like you
(A)
I worry that
(Amaj13) (Fmaj7) (Em)
I don't act the way you want me to
(A)
I'm sorry that
(Amaj13) (Fmaj7) (Em)
I'm sorry that I'm not like you
You find me wanting
You find me bloodless but inspired
You find me out
You find me hallucinating fire
No narcotics in my brain
Can make this go away
Have we ever been here before?
Running headlong at the floor
Leave me dreaming on a railway track

| Okay... When I read the lyrics I think of a friendship where one is in love with his friend, but feels his friend isn't even aware. He feels so strongly for her but is afraid to confront her..or something. He seems to do pretty much anything to stay by her side even being someone other than himself to impress her. It's driving him crazy. | |

| I think this song is just about sorta being made to fit someone's image...even though you are a unique person. Sad song. | |

| I think this song is about a failing relationship where one of the people involved feels as if they're not the person that the other wants them to be. The whole song seems like a synical apology, as if to say "well gee, sorry I couldn't be the person you wanted me to, I am who I am" | |

| He's in love with a girl that once loved him back, but doesn't anymore. She expects too much from him, he feels like a let-down. "Leave me dreaming on a railway track, wrap me up and send me back"--listen to Trains. | |

| It's all about the fact that he isn't all that psyched about doing drugs. In Prodigal, he states: "I tried the capsule and I tried the smoke I tried to aid escape like normal folk But I never seemed to get the joke" Which would most likely mean that he didn't see what was so good about drugs (which is ironic, because I get high and listen to PT, and it feels like a way better high. Go figure.) | |

| To me, this song is a dialogue between a drug addict and the drug itself. "You keep me..." and "You have me..." emphasize actions the drug makes him/her do all the time. The druggie complains of how he/she lost control of his/her actions. "You have me on my knees" refers to vomitting from drug use. "You have me in your pocket" when in reality the person has the drug in his pocket, but it feels as if the other way around is even truer. When Steve Wilson raises his voice, it's the drug talking now: "I'm sorry that, I'm sorry that I'm not like you. I worry that I don't act the way you'd like me to." The drug is not like the druggie--it's inanimate and does none of those things, but it worries that it is unintentionally causing the pothead do those things. | |
