Mysterons by Portishead

This is the first song from the album "Dummy".
Effects: Lots of echo, some distortion for the chorus (to give it
a metallic sound). For the solo "mysterons sound" bit, just add a lot
of vibrato to all the notes so it goes ooowwwwoooowwooo...alright?

| To me this song speaks about one who is in search of Truth, of a deeper meaning, of the mystery of life. One who engulfs oneself in the trance of philosophical thoughts in search for these things: "Divine upper reaches Still holding on This ocean will not be grasped All for nothing" The Ocean being the depth of the thoughts and paradoxical/unanswerable questions where these thoughts lead. "All for nothing" since all this does is bring grief and never a satisfactory answer "Did you really want" to live your life this way P.S. Ignorance is bliss (well.. a mild form of happiness at least)!! | |

| this is an especially dark song from portishead. the whole album dummy is pretty dark but this i s the first song and kind of sets the scene. the desperate vocals mixed with the constant drums and guitar. a great song but unnaturally moving | |

| It's named after the protagonists in Captain Scarlet. It's pretty dark - created by Gerry Anderson after Thunderbirds. There's also a new version in CGI, which is just as dark. The whole premise of the program has an underlying problem of "Are the Mysterons really the bad guys"? The first episode has Captain Scarlets mate blowing up the Mysterons and starting a war. I believe, the moral ambiguity of this, caused it not to sit very well with a lot of people. Maybe that's what the song is playing - the moral ambiguity of blame at the end of a relationship. | |
