The Am chord is sometimes "sussed" to add a transition, but mostly
chords
are just strummed once with lots of echo and reverb and a bit of
distortion. The strumming can be slightly tricky if you're singing at
the same time, so listen to the record to get it right.
Intro/Verse:
Am G6 Fmaj7 E7 F G
Am
e:-----------------0-----|----1--------0----|------|--------------------
---|
B:-----------------0-----|----1--------0----|------|--------------------
---|
G:----5------------0-----|----2--------1----|------|---0h2-----0h4-----5
---|x2
D:-7--------7------2-----|----2--------0----|--x2--|---0h3-----0h5-----7
---|
A:----7------------2-----|----3--------2----|------|-----3-----0h5-----7
---|
E:-5---------------3-----|----1--------0----|------|-----1-------3-----5
---|
Drums come in...
Verse 1:
--------
Am G6 Fma7 E7 Am
Oho, can't anybody see? You gotta walk to find me,
G6 Fmaj7 E7
Never found our way, regardless, of what they say
F G Am F
How can it feel, this wrong? From this moment,
G Am
How can if feel, this wrong?
Verse 2: (same chords as previously) Chords have more echo here
--------
Am G6 Fmaj7 E7 Am
Stoned, in the morning light, I feel, no more
G6 Fmaj7 E7 F G
Can I say, frozen, to myself, I got nobody on my side,
Am
And surely that ain't right
F G Am
Surely that ain't right.
Verse 3:
--------
Same as verse 1, except with strings..Also, 2nd Am is sussed,
if you see what I mean...(play 2nd Am as Am->Asus4->G6)
Until:
F G Am F
How can it feel, this wrong, from this moment
G E7
How can it feel, this wrong?
Break:
------
Play intro (with a lot of bass A, G, F, E) up to:
F G Am F
How can it feel, this wrong, from this moment
G E7
How can it feel, this wrong?
Play Verse 1 again (the same way as in intro).
Ends on: Am
"...this wrong."
Other ways of playing some chords:
----------------------------------
Fmaj7 Amsus4 Am G6 or
e:--0---------------0-----3--0--|
B:--1---------5-----1-----5--0--| The 1st G6 voicing is a bit crap,
G:--2---------7-----2-----4--0--| but Fmaj7 and Am and 2nd G6 are easier
D:--3---------7-----2-----x--0--| to play like this on an accoustic
A:--3---------7-----0-----5--2--| and sound better..
E:--0---------5-----------3--3--|

I really can't say what this songs about, but my guess would be that it's just about hitting absolute bottom, or the turning into an adult experience that someone mentioned earlier. However, the main reason for my post. Get on a train, sit at one end of the carriage with a good view of everybody, stick this song on your MP3/CD player quite loud, and either look out the window and reflect, or watch all the people and contemplate their lives/stories/purposes. I found doing this to be one of the most serene and content moments of my life, strange really since it's such a sad song. I only just discovered this song, on the Tank Girl soundtrack, I now have to investigate the rest of portishead, I hope it's as good.

In my opinion, it's you being different from everyone else, being looked down upon, and having no one who agrees with what you are doing. You look for help, theres no one there. Thinking of alternatives, all you can come up with is to continue to try. After a while, and much consideration, you start to doubt what you are, and what makes you individual. So all in all, it's about rejection of who you are and no one wanting anything to do with who you are, and what you do.

"drietovenares" said it so well, thats right its a struggle we deal with when we become adults, no one is on your side any more, your all alone and its not easy, becuase all you receive is ignorance and judgement from other people regardless if you are right! I feel as if i fight a war every single day of my life, no one is here to help you, just your self! and it feels wrong becuase we are all humans and we need each other to understand one another.

this song is beautiful it brings up so many things for me. " from this moment, how can it feel, this wrong" it srikes so many cords for me. It likes being told eveything you know is wrong, having the blind fold of conditioning removed

This kind of song makes me think of first and second season Buffy. Tragic bands playing in the dark and dingy Bronze while the characters are depressed. Utterly beautiful. I agree with BigGreenMat. Makes me think of quiet city streets at midnight. Walking aimlessly through a forrested park with only the lumination of the Moon.
