Frizzle Fry
by PRIMUS!!!
On tour at the moment. I saw them at Roseland in NYC Aug 3rd 1995.
Mike Watt sucked.
if you think this is wrong, or just too easy, e-mail me at:
Toyletduk@aol.com or
JTracy.prs.k12.nj
Remember, I'm not gonna pay money to answer you back :)
Remember view this and all tabs in MONOSPATIAL FONTS like Monaco or Courier
This is a fun song to play live. Just get an ADA bass preamp for
distortion and a nasty drummer. I played this at some arcade in NY and
got PAID. (Of course we played other songs) But who cares about me.
Just use that short bass interlude to get ready before the solo.

For those morons who just got a guitar from daddy yesterday, palm mute means
to put your picking hand palm on the strings just touching the bridge enough
to limit the duration of the string vibrations, but not to completly deaden
the string.

Sorry about the timing, it's not exactly easy to be precise here. But
if you have any sense of rhythm you should get it.
I'm not gonna do the solo, since it's just improv (Eb minor scale or
something). It would also defeat the purpose of playing a song arranged like
this one. Just remember to keep those highs ringing. Or try to play it like
on "Suck on This"

I think there's a bass tab already posted. It's fairly accurate, but it's not
like this is an extremely hard song on bass.
I know Brendan Hill of Blues Traveler's brother. If anyone wants some tabs or
info of the band e-mail me. Don't get your hopes up though, I only met John
Popper twice. (He played at our school band concert at Princeton High) My
guitar and bass instructor taught their guitarist.
PS. They used to be called Blues Band and their next video is gonna be Hook.
They had a vid out for "But Anyway" but it's so shitty MTV wouldn't accept
it.

| I see this song as a personal statement about not caring what people think and not changing ("play this tune over again"). The Barrington reference I can't explain, and some of the hallucinogenic meanings make sense (e.g. walls breathing) so I guess it is about a trip or something too, but it's not that simple. Come to think of it the coke thing makes sense as the lyrics tend to get confident/arrogant afterward, and the "fuck it all" thing too, but it's surely about individuality too. | |

| I can see how certain parts may be about drugs and how it might sound negative, but it seems more defiant and triumphant to me. Maybe he recalls an acid trip in the Barrington part, but if its about drugs at all I'd say coke, and only to exaggerate his confidence in going his own way and the choices and beliefs that involves. | |

| Frizzle Fry is not what any of you think. Barrington is the dorm Les lived in when he went to Berkley. Famous for its crazy parties and hard drugs, Barrington Hall is the subject of many Claypool songs (pretty much the entire FRIZZLE FRY album and the song BARRINGTON HALL is a Frog Bridage tune and tells you about it. This song is about all the people in that dorm doing acid, meth, weed, & coke. It drove half of them nuts. This is what he's talking about when he says, "Andy's painting green again(translation -- Andy's going nuts from drugs). And "FRIZZLE FRY" is your head after all of this damage; fried and frizzled and toasted. And to explain all of the "i dont believe in...", that's how you feel after hard long binges -- YOU DONT GIVE A F*** ABOUT ANYTHING. Probably the darkest and more creative of all their songs, this one is a bad motherfuc*er. Claypool uses all techniques of style in this song -- slap, pops, strum, pluck. He's a cool bastard. | |

| I am thinking hallucinations because ive heard it can somewhat have something to do with connecting with god/bible as for the whole "I don't believe in charity I don't believe in sin And if you don't believe in me, We'll play this tune over again I don't believe in pinochle And I don't beleive I'll try I do believe in Captain Crunch" | |

| It's about psychedelics. Tripping is often referred to as frying. Tripping can be used as an alternative to religion and all that riff raff. That's what it's about I'm sure you can put the rest together yourself. P.s. Les claypool isn't 'naturally weird' it's obvious he's used a whole lot of fucking drugs. | |

| I see the "Frizzle Fry" as a personification of a certain pattern: the ego's tendency toward self-annihilation. It seeks reduction/negation through sustained excitation. It wants to fry everything away until there's nothing left. Also, when seeking self-destruction a strong tendancy develops towards gratification and escape through excitation. Captain Crunch personifies this reaction perfectly. It's pure sugar, and the tactile sensation from chewing is extremely intense, providing further stimulation. This pattern of seeking pleasure (which is basically a form of excitation) furthers the nihilistic process. | |

| i dont think he means Berkley, as in Berklee College of Music in Boston. If he does he is wrong. In the city of Berkley, in California, there was this place called Barrington Hall. Theres even a website, barringtonhall.org i believe. | |
