The Bastards are basically, everyone who played on the songs of the same name. Members of Primus and Limbomaniacs, plus Matt Winegar, Todd Huth, and Mike Bordin( Faith No More).

I remember hearing something somewhere else about "this idea Something about a hammer head shark" probably off of their "Animals should not try to act like people" DVD. hmmm...must re-check that out... anyway - yeah, this song is about them (the band) arriving on the "music scene". "Bury your head deep in the sand Anonyminity is a virtue in this day and age" is obviously their claim that they will "spare no-one" from their music, and their lyrical contents. No-one is untouchable...

This song is about politicians. It especially works right now during the Bush administration with "Flagrant misuse of security." The politicians are the bastards.

I'm sure they have referred to politicians when playing this song live, or added a line (I remember something about legislation). However also they play it early in their live sets like as an intro almost, Les's boat is called Los Bastardos or something and I think they do call themselves collectively something like that. As with most of their songs it has a literal meaning that applies to the band, and a metaphorical meaning (political or whatever).
