THC (tetra-hydro-cannabinol) is one of the main active chemicals in marijuana. pretty much all of Primus song were written high/or trippin on stuff like shrooms

There are metaphors in all Primus songs! Of coure it's not just about the DMV, half the lyrics aren't referring to it... I think it's about life and our satisfaction from it; there are things to relieve us from the stress, but they're bad in their own way, so isn't life kind of pointless? Then again, what point could it have and how would you know that it's the true meaning? So just get on with it, enjoy the good things and put up with the bad, because that's the way life is! Spegetti Western is anti-pot, as is this, and Les has quit drugs now.

This song is about how there a lot of things in life we love to do, and then there are a lot of shitty things in life we have to do as well. That's my take on it anyways.

"When I need relief I spell it THC Perhaps you may know vaguely what I mean I sit back and smoke away huge chunks of memory As I slowly inflict upon myself a full lobotomy " this is gold. Funny because it's true.

Primus uses way to many metaphors and symbolism in their lyrics, they are such cryptic puzzles. I cant begin to fathom this songs meaning. (sarcasm is a bitch) I love this song, CLAYPOOL FOR PRESIDENT!!!

hmm...shit that we hate in life. That's what this is about. You've got your parties and your friends and your fun...but you also have to put up with shit. POWER TAPPIDY TAP on the bass! And that end bass-strum solo blows me away everytime i hear it.

oh, man you guys. you must not have heard an actual solo by les. the solo in DMV is shit compared to it. I'd love to tell you where to get your hands on a 45-second live bomb ass solo track, but it's some exclusive shit that only one friend of mine has, and I don't know where he got it. but anyways, I actually hear that DMV is about a guy who waited in line longer than he could handle and hung himself afterwards. I do think that the way "Bob" just goes straight to DMV has something to do with it. and I think we all know what bob is about; it's pretty self explanatory.

DMV, of course, stands for the Department of Motor Vehicles which is infamous for long lines and endless waiting.

DMV is just something he personally hates, that others can understand why, along with his personal vice (cannabis).

yea i think people are reading a little to much into this... les is just ranting about the dmv... he oes off a little generalizing that theres tons of hings in life we hate but we gota do em anyway... but yea the song really is about the dmv in my opinion its not a metaphor. but yea as per that drug thing.... les smokes pot and shit as mentioned in this song... and he also does acid and admits it openly... but lacquer head as well as harold of the rocks and damned bluue collared tweakeres and many other songs les is criticizing the use of addictive hard drugs because of personal experiences in which they ruined people's lives. just because les smokes pot doesn't mean he can't writ songs against the use of hard drugs.... those are two totally different ball parks.
