Queen - "Drowse" (Acoustic Arrangement)
=======================================
Words & Music by Roger Taylor
Arranged by Matt Notley
matt_notley@hotmail.com
November 2001

This is my own interpretation of an arrangement of the song designed to be played by two
acoustic
guitars together. If you want to play it solo, then just follow the arrangement for either
guitar and
decide for yourself which parts sound best. The guitar parts are listed below together,
with Guitar 1
on top and Guitar 2 on the bottom.

Verse 2:
========
(As Verse 1)

It's the fantastic drowse of the afternoon Sundays,
That bored you to rages of tears.
It's the unending pleadings to waste all your good times,
In thoughts of your middle-aged years.
It's a vertical hold, all the things that you're told,
For the every day hero it all turns to zero,
And there's all the more reason for living and dying,
When you're young and your troubles are all very small.

Verse 3:
========
(As Verse 1 & 2)

Never wanted to be the boy next door,
Always thought I'd be something more,
But it ain't easy for a small-town boy,
It ain't easy at all.
Thinking it right, doing it wrong,
It's easier from an armchair.
Waves of alternatives wash at my sleepiness,
Have my eggs poached for breakfast, I guess.

I think it's about how the world seems the same when you're a teenager, and wanting to be more than everyone else, but everyone just telling you that it'll never happen, because you're a "downtown" kid, someone without any prospects and someone who wasted their whole life and you just want to prove them wrong, but can't ... And there are lyrics missing at the very end, but I can't remember what they are.

It is a grown up man remembering the days when he was young and had no worries and everythin seemed easy, but then he went through a stage in wuhich he realized how things were going te be. and now all he does is remember how great it was back then. So basically, it is about a man who watched his life go by, and the message is: don't! LIVE your life! it's no use to spend your time remembering joyful (or sad) moments, or thinking of what your life could have been. Face up the troubles you have now. I'm allready repeting myself... l

Is it a song about being bored or something? All I know is that its Roger Taylors best song. Its great.

The lyrics missing at the end are: "I think I'll be Clint Eastwood No, Jimi Hendrix, he looks good Let's try William the Conqueror Now who else do I like?" I got the impression that the song was being told by a middle aged man recalling his teenage years. He always wanted to be something special when he was younger, but failed, so now he's just a lazy, discouraged man.

i love this song. I think its very pretty actually, its about youth, and theres a bitter sweetness to the personal refelctions Roger put into it, the way he'd scuff up the streets with his buddies with "endlessly restless feet" and "broadened our minds more in the pool hall than we did in the school hall".... the sadness of the breakups on those bleaksteets, or first time witnesses of the nightlife-- of the lights and of the fun... wanting to be something great, and how even though your troubles are less back then, there seems to be all the more reason to live and feel the extremes of life, laughing crying, living, dying.

I didn't mean that Roger was a middle aged man...I meant that he was telling the song from the point of view of a middle aged man recalling his youth. That's just the impression I got anyway...

But Roger wasn't a middle aged man when this was released. Whatever. I love this song. It comes close to being my favourite roger song under Tenement Funster. I love it. "Half of the time We'd broaden our minds More in the poolhall than we did in the schoolhall" I can relate to that. You can spend hours trying to teach kids about stuff they don't care about, but they don't learn anything. When they go to hang out and talk about stuff, conversations can lead to mysteries. It has happened to me a few times
