IN LIMBO
for guitar - 4/4, 2/4 time signature
I have tabbed out each riff and named them INTRO RIFF, VERSE RIFF and CHORUS
RIFF, to add a bit of structure (not that it's distinguishable). At
the end I have put a structure layout.
There is only the one guitar throughout. Ed plays the little intro riff on keyboard but
it sounds okay on
guitar, but when everyone comes in, Jonny plays the main repeated riff. Jonny plays
little delayed riffs
here
and there too.
KEY:
H - hammer on
P - pull off
x - muted scratch
INTRO RIFF - 4/4, 2/4:
Here is the little riff before it kicks in. It might
have a short delay on, that's why it was so *** hard
to tab..!
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 +
e -------------------------------------------------
B --1-3-3-3-----1-3-3---3---3-3-3-3-5-3-1-3---3-3--
G ---H-----------H-------------------P---H---------
D -------------------------------------------------
A -------------------------------------------------
E -------------------------------------------------
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 +
e ---------------------------------------------------
B --1-3-3-3-3-3-1-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-1-3-3-3---3-1-3--
G ---H-----------H-------------------H-----------H---
D ---------------------------------------------------
A ---------------------------------------------------
E ---------------------------------------------------
Then it all kicks in but this keyboard/guitar still continues
quietly throughout the verses, varying a little.
VERSE RIFF - 4/4, 2/4:
This is the main riff, playing triplets:
1 2 3 4 1 2
e --------------------------------------------------------
B --------------------------------------------------------
G --------0-----------------------------------------------
D -----3-----------0--------0-----------------0--------0--
A --5-----------3--------2--------2--------2--------3-----
E -----------5--------0--------------0--3--------1--------
Jonny does delayed scratching a lot and sometimes plays
little delayed licks on the 4th beat:
4 + 4 +
e ------- e -------
B ------- B --2-4-- - (discordant)
G --2-0-- G ---H---
D ---P--- D -------
A ------- A -------
E ------- E -------
CHORUS RIFF (major) - 4/4:
Still playing triplets:
1 2 3 4 1 2 (3) (4)
e --------------------------------------------------
B --------------------------------------------0-----
G --------0--------0--------0--------0--------0-----
D -----1--------0--------5--------2-----2-----2-----
A --3--------1--------6--------3-----------3--2-----
E --------------------------------------------0-----
CHORUS RIFF (minor) - 4/4:
Still playing triplets:
1 2 3 4 1 2 (3) (4)
e --------------------------------------------------
B --------------------------------------------0-----
G --------0--------0--------0--------0--------0-----
D -----1--------0--------5--------1-----1-----2-----
A --3--------1--------6--------3-----------3--2-----
E --------------------------------------------0-----
Jonny does more delayed licks on the final 4th beat
of the above riff:
CHORUS ONE:
4 4 4 4
e --0-- e --3-- e --3-- e --x--
B --0-- B ----- B ----- B --x--
G --0-- G ----- G ----- G --x--
D ----- D ----- D ----- D --x--
A ----- A ----- A ----- A --x--
E ----- E ----- E ----- E --x--
CHORUS TWO:
4 4 4 4
e --3-- e ----- e ----- e --x--
B ----- B --3-- B --3-- B --x--
G ----- G ----- G ----- G --x--
D ----- D ----- D ----- D --x--
A ----- A ----- A ----- A --x--
E ----- E ----- E ----- E --x--
CHORUS THREE:
4 4 4
e --3-- e --3-- e -----
B --0-- B ----- B --4-- - rpt. this to end
G ----- G ----- G -----
D ----- D ----- D -----
A ----- A ----- A -----
E ----- E ----- E -----
SONG STRUCTURE:

| Here fear of the unknown increases from the paranoia of Optimistic, and becomes increasingly difficult to ignore. yet the "fantasy world" is still there, and no one dares to tackle the impending catatrophe. Quote: "I am awake at 4 AM to the terrifying undeniable truth that there is nothing I can do to stop the monster." From a Radiohead poster. The "monster" sybolises any impending evil, be it whatever. Yet it is still ignored, because what is there to be done? We remain "In Limbo", between life and death, between belief and disbelief. | |

| You're living in a fantasy People see what they want to see. It's a defense mechanism. Nobody can see truth while looking through the eyes of ego. | |

| It's about division. The irish sea divides england and ireland. ANd then in the chorus, he says I'm on your side. Its about some duality that he is trying to break down. Maybe he doesnt think he fits in either side, maybe it is trying to be neutral all the time. It's cryptic. I guess you can only take your own meaning from it. | |

| i doubt radiohead intended it to sound like this, but i think it could be about the abuse of drugs. "you're living in a fantasy world" and "ive lost my way". i doubt it, but just something to think about it | |

| Incoprehension reigns. The secure world we build around ourselves based on denial is gradually turned upside down. We retreat further still, knowing we cannot stop the disaster as we shut out all thoughts of it. | |

| It actually says "Lundy, fastnet, Irish Sea" at he start, which are parts of the sea between England and Ireland. The song is about being In Limbo. | |
