yeah the song is about a guy that's in love with this lady he helped get famous, and when the record company he bribed saw her, they gave her a record deal and now she's forgotten about him. He's talking about the reasons she might come back to him then he says "but I'm playing with myself" which means basically "I'm just fooling myself into believing she'll come back to me" and he starts talking about how he doesn't compare to the other men, probably the richer crowd. He's been thinking about her, like the song title says, not necessarily... yeah...

Its not about wanking, per se, but it does refer to the act of masturbation - "should I still love you, still see you in bed/ but I'm playing with myself" Should I still be getting off over you now we're through?

Yes. It IS ABOUT WANKING! Johnny did say that, infact I have it in writing; The Radiohead Story, their unofficial biography has it very clear in it. I don't care if you don't want to imagine your favorite band as once writing a masturbation song, but get over it.

I wish i could write like this. Then maybe certain people I know could really know what I feel for them. Thom Yorke is amazing!

i think the line about wanking is about wanking. the song is about unrequited love. the two things can happen at the same time. the whole song isn't about wanking, in my opinion, but if jonny says it's about wanking i think the 'playing with myself' line is. i have no problem with radiohead talking about masturbation. they are my favourite band and i love them. it's a good song.

"Originally Released: October 1991 Found on: Pablo Honey Alternative versions: Drill EP, Itch EP, Anyone Can Play Guitar Australia Intially part of the Manic Hedgehog demo, this touching love song focuses on the experience of being left behind by someone who has achieved fame. It exposes Thom's ability to offer very different but realistic perspectives on issues. In its original form, the tune was very heavily guitar-oriented with a much faster tempo than the acoustic version found on Pablo Honey. This rocking version also appears on the Drill EP and Itch."

Radiohead is a talented band, happen to be one of my favorites. for all the radiohead fans out there.. only the TRUE fans.. go to.. www.followmearound.com that is the best site for information on radiohead. you can also find out what the songs really mean when you go to the lyrics.. each song has its on biography about it next to it.. it even has the band members opinions on the songs. its not just about unrequited love, its about a love for a woman that has left and forgotten this man in a pursuit of fame. this main still obviously has feelings, and is speaking about all the things that he had done for her when they were together, when she was not famous. how anyone would assume the entire song is about masturbation is beyond me; the line about 'playing with myself' only serves to further emphasize the loneliness felt by this man. just my two cents.

DeathRockBoy is right...Jonny Greenwood said something about how "Thinking About You" is his mum's favourite song, but he doesn't have the heart to tell her it's about wanking.

The way I see this song it's about a girl after a breakup with her boyfriend who ran off with another crowd maybe after becoming famous or wealthy "all the things you got that you'll never need" she's saying she has pictures of him everwhere still "Your eyes are on the wall your teeth are over there" and she begins to think of times before he became wealthy or famous, "I bought you cigarettes, i pried (I still think the lyric is bribed) the company to come and see you honey" and she's saying that all the friends he has now are false "These people aren't your friends they're paid to kiss your feet" That's what this song is about to me, anyway, because that's what happened between me and my ex-girlfriend I came into some money and left her but when I stopped spending on them I realized she had decided that she shouldn't care when I'm not there... I still feel terrible and this song is especially beautiful to me because of that experience... Thom Yorke is a friggin genius.

well you would have to be retarded to think its about masterbation...just because he sings "but i'm playing with myself" dosn't me he is singing about playing with his dick...please grow up! this song has alot more meaning to it than your ideas of stupid teenage grab ass romance or masterbation. kaisute, you got it backward, its not about how the girl is alone, its about how the guy (thom) is alone while the girl he help become a star dumped him and left him for other friends. also these lyrics are WRONG! the line: "the way I cut your hair" in NOT in the song! Thom sings "But i'm just playing with myself" not "WHEN i'm playing with myself" its "Bribed"..not Pried Don't believe me? check it out for yourself! http://www.greenplastic.com

Well i first looked at kaisute's responce and that makes alot of sense and then i thought death was pretty dumb..... i look at the song now and it really could mean about masturbation..... When he says "your eyes are on my wall" it could be when u daydream and u think about someone and u realise ur just staring at a wall.... I also think that it is about rejection..... rejection and the thom masturbating.... He says how he bought her cigarettes and gave her everything she needed but yet she rejects him..... well thats my thought. I love the song tho.

proof that its not about a girl breaking up with her boyfriend when he becomes a star is in this simple line: "What do you care when the other men are far, far better?" ok so he left her and then went gay? READ THE LYRICS CAREFULY!

Sure, maybe they wrote it about jacking off. But I bet it was meant to be taken either way. It's up to you.
