Blow Out ? Radiohead

This is the best track on Radiohead?s first album ?Pablo Honey? and is my second favourite
Radiohead song,
my first being ?Paranoid Android?.

Verse and Chorus

Em7 G Em7 A A

E--------2----------3--------------2-------x---------x---------0---------x---------x-------0------|
B--------0----------0--------------0-------1----s/---3---------2---------1---s/----3-------2------|
G--------0----------0--------------0-------0----s/---0---------2---------0---s/----0-------2------|
D--------2----------x--------------2-------2----s/---4---------2---------2---s/----4-------2------|
A--------2----------x--------------2-------x---------x---------0---------x---------x-------0------|
E--------0----------3--------------0-------x---------x---------x---------x---------x-------x------|

(Loud distorted bit)

A C

E------4--------------------------0------------|
B------2--------------------------0------------|
G------2--------------------------0------------|
D------2--------------------------2------------|
A------0--------------------------3------------|
E------x--------------------------3------------|

I think that a second guitarist plays a harmonic on the high E of the 7th fret for the opening,
which is played over the chords from the verse. This may not be accurate as I?m doing it
from memory,
if there is any problems/corrections please Email me on salonkitty@bushinternet.com.

Words

Verse One
In my mind and nailed into my heals
All the time, killing what I feel

Chorus
And everything I touch
(All wrapped up in cotton wool)
Turns to stone
(All wrapped up in sugarcoated pills)

Verse Two
I am fused, just in case I blow out
I am glued, just in case I crack out.

I would like to think it's really Thom. He's probably laughing at all the silly interpretations. I'm hungry. I think theres still some veggie burgers in the fridge.

The album is all about a break-up. And the different emotions you go through. This is a fitting ending. He's saying that everything he does is destructive. Even with best intentions. He's feeling sorry for himself basically. Because nothing has turned out like he hoped.

He just made that up XD Trust me, Jonny doesn't get violent unless he's on stage playing his guitar. And no offence, but Thom's grammar and punctuation aren't that good. He doesn't use any capitalization at all.

This song could be about picking daisies and I would still turn it up as loud as it could go. What I want to know is HOW did they come up with the guitar parts that just keep going up and up? My jaw just dropped when I first heard that! And please forgive my gullability... is that REALLY Thom Yorke posting? Do I dare to dream?

If my life could ever be described or manifested as a song, this would be it. "Know yourself." - Christ

Nobody's posted on this song for some reason... I think this is one of the only two songs that come away from Pablo Honey scot-free (the other being Stop Whispering). This song is the sound of someone resigning themselves to their slow collapse. "I am fused just in case I blow out" - Thom feels his life is barely held together by routine. It's not as sad as it could be - the music gives the impression that these thoughts are merely passing through his head. I have an acoustic version from CBC Radio Vancouver that has a few of the Posies playing with Thom. It's worth tracking down; the spareness of the instrumentation seems to give his lyrics more heft.

I think this song is about not being confident in your abilities the lines "everything I touch turns to stone" and "Im fused just in case I blow out" seem to indicate this. Radiohead are a great band and pretty much all of their songs have amazing and deep lyrics.

That version of it really is much better. However, most of the titles I've seen of it are Radiohead feat. the Pixies. It clearly says John from the Posies is playing drums, and never actually mentions the Pixies on it, but hey. People can be stupid like that.

This song is awesome! I think that apart from Creep, this song is my favorite from Pablo Honey. I think that I can agree with JonnyBones on this one...It does seem that he must think that his life is held together by routine. Anyhoo, I love this song...although I think it annoys neighbors when I crank it up...heh, that's what they get for being so annoying with their music when I'm trying to sleep. I really love that last minute or so when the guitars are just...well, it's kinda hard to describe, but I love it! Heh, well all I've gotta say is that this song is awesome...later!

I don't hear those lines in brackets... "[All wrapped up in cotton wool] [All wrapped up and sugar coated]" Is there another version besides that one with Portishead?

"Thom_Yorke" has posted that exact post on several other songs (changing the title of course). No way it's Thom Yorke. Case closed.

One violent night, after a stormy session, Jonny got particularly violent. He grabbed Ed by the throat and slammed him against the wall. We had to jump Jonny to calm him down. As a punishment, we sent him to the corner of the room, on a stool with the dunce cap for a time out. After an hour or so, we returned from the local bar and found Jonny scribbling the lyrics of Blowout on the wall. Nowadays, whenever we get in a creative rut, we send Jonny to the wall, that bonny lad of ours. He's getting tired of it, though. Poor chap.
