This is probably my favorite song by Rammstein. A song of lost love is what it is. Some times you cant rally tell what Till is trying to get through with his lyrics because he uses so many double meanings. But definately this has to be one of their best.

I believe that this song means that this man was and still is in love with a woman, but she cheated on him. This drove him to insanity and, without anyone knowing, he locked her in a room with only a piano in it. He would come in the room and make her play for him, him still believing she only loved and wanted to be with him. He never let her out of the room, she died at the piano. When people finally questioned where she was, it was too late to do anything, she was already dead. This is only the direct meaning, as Exile said it more than likely has double-meaning and that when she cheated on him he just lashed out and killed her. Either way, they loved each other, she cheated, he killed her, shes dead. An excellent song that is exactly what I expected from rammstein. A complete twist of lyrics and music; this music would never hint at the meaning, until the end. As well as being laced with double meanings.

Yeah, i love it too. His voice at the beginning makes me smile, then i hear what the song is about. Also, it sounds quite similiar to 'Seemann'. Still, a great song nonetheless

I'm really not a Rammstein fan, but this song is amazing. I think most of it is already said, but I personally have a very...creepy imagination of this song: I guess he locked the girl up in this room with the piano, and at the moment of the song, she is only a grey, dusty skeleton, still sitting at that piano. I mean, the paino is dusty, too, and he sings that she is still sitting there. And then there is this moment where her parents come to that place (maybe they stopped the contact anyway, that's why it took so long) and they just see this creepy skeleton and start to scream/beat him up. And of course nobody can understand him. A very extreme and emotional love song. It's about the fear of losing someone. I mean, all he actually wanted was that she plays the piano for him forever. That he never loses her. And then he found out that she cheated on him (she definitely did, no doubt. To stay in english: He sings that she SEEMED to play for him alone, but this tells us that she actually doesn't do that. Also he describes the fire as the "fire of his rage".), killed her and placed her at the piano to make her do that forever. I love this "sick" songs that actually have some kind of beauty.

The girl is a bitch. She says it, because it is her job. But he is ill, thinks that it`s true. A typical problem of Prostitution.

Alright well, this is what I got out of the song. . . Geöffnet ist die Tür ei wie sie schreien ich höre die Mutter flehen der Vater schlägt auf mich ein man löst sie vom Klavier und niemand glaubt mir hier das ich todkrank von Kummer und Gestank Translated to English would be: The door is open oh, how they scream I hear mother pleading father is beating me they take her from the piano and no one believes me here that I am deathly ill from sorrow and the stench I'm assuming that he killed her and stayed in the room with her and the Piano. The stench of her rotting corpse made him ill. Nothing about him locking her into a room, he killed her in the room and stayed in there with her. I'll post the English trans. . .

I always heard Till sing in such a rough voice, this was quite unexpected. Just proves that German can sound nice too, to everyone that thinks German is an angry language.

Wanted to kill her? He did! "I pour her blood into the fire of my rage." Pretty obvious. He is revisting the setting of the piano, where his love played for her, which is most likely a double-meaning for being in love with him. The piano is old, "The keys are dusty, the strings out of tune," thus meaning that the love, passion, etc. is nothing more than a dead memory. She plays behind the piano, but that was so long ago, again, meaning that she is no longer with him. She claims, also, that she will "only play for him," obviously meaning that she loves no one else. But it seems that was a lie... A great song, one of the best by everyone's favorate German industrial group.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but I heard that in German 'lauschen' not only means 'listening' , but can also mean giving oral pleasure to a woman. This could mean that there is some sexual ritual at the piano causing the fuss. It would also imply that the 'Ich' figure is actually a woman (dort am Klavier, lauschte sie mir). Maybe there is a native German speaker that knows this for sure?
