Lyrics:
[Verse]:
He was an artist and a writer and a poet and a friend.
In a man's life he will take a fall, but how low he goes, that just
depends. He's shooting dope in the men's room at the station, daly city
train. Have you ever seen an angel?
Well I know I have. They'll stay here for a while then they fly away.
[Chorus]:
Jackyl had a beer in his hand last time I seen him. When he rolled the
dice you know he never thought twice, never thought twice about being here.
[Verse]:
Some grow up, and some grow old. But what about the kid who never learned
the rules. Spent all these years on earth, when you look back, it's just
a flicker of time. He was one of the ones that was already saved through
all. Through all this evil and wreckage, he maintained a sense of himself.
[Chorus]
[Solo]
[Bridge]:
Some men are in prison even though they walk the streets at night. Other
men who got the lockdown are free as a bird in flight.
[Chorus]
That's it! Let me know if you have any changes, comments, etc., or
requests, or if you have any ifo about the new Rancid album.

| Guys, it's really simple. This song is about someone who does not fall into the everyday "system" and just lives his life. It's about someone who didn't buy the bullshit that to have a good life you need to go to college, get a high paying job, and have a big house. The two lines that express this the most are: "Some men are in prison even though they walk the streets at night Other men who got the lockdown are free as a bird in flight" He's saying some men that think they are free are actually in a prison of their own creation. He's talking about businessmen and other people who concern themselves with nothing but money and material things. The second line is saying that even though a man is in prison, his soul or concious may be as free as a bird because he doesn't concern himself with the everyday material bullshit. Jackly, whether real or fiction, is a symbol for that rare person that is able to stay true to themselves their whole life. It's that person who never buy's in to the bullshit "american" way. This is often portrayed as someone who just enjoys everyday as if it was their last, last time I saw jackyl he had a beer in his hand (why? because he's enjoying himself). "Have you ever seen an angel Well, I know I have They'll stay here for a while and then they'll fly away" These types of people are rare, because it takes a special kind of person to go against eveything society tells us we should do. Jackyl is the true defnition of a rebel, he follows no one. They are also short lived, because society doesn't like these types of people, so society tries to purge them as fast as possible. But for that short time that person is around, they are like an angle to all of us who are hopefull that oneday we will all come together and just live our lives, and not worry about who has the most money. Bottom line: We are all a flicker of time in the big picture. Stop worrying about the small stuff and fucking enjoy your life while you can. | |

| yeah, who's this song about? is it about some specific person or just like some character who is known only as Jackyl? this is a beautiful song. and even know you posted last september, terraryzin, dont insult blink182. you say they seem like they're in 7th grade, but you seem like you're in fifth grade when you purposely bring them up just to insult them. grow up, you're lame. woo hoo, go rancid. | |

| While I can't say for sure, it's most likely about someone that Armstrong personally knew. His lyrics are usually very literal. My best guess is that it is about someone who was a drug addict and shunned by the general public but who Armstrong developed a personal relationship with and found to be a very beautiful person. He says how low he goes it just depends, and follows that with shooting dope in the mens room. That's a pretty low moment moment in most people's opinions. However he follows that up with Have you ever seen an angel?... I believe the song is about a real person who either died or disappeared, and Armstrong is writing a sort of homage to this person. | |

| It may be just me, but i belive this song is about Kurt Cobain. It's an almost perfect description including the heroin addiction, and how his life was so short but throughout his troubled life he was still able to stay true to himself. | |
