I wonder if The Borrell's attempting use of 'America' in a sort of Simon & Garfunkel manner, aka. the ideal? He talks about restlessness and unhappiness and how it's parallel to the 'trouble in America', and all that. And it also works literally speaking, I suppose, though while being really rather simple. (Of course, this IS Razorlight, so it could just be a load of gobshite, really.)

I completely agree with you Javier Mascherano- these lines seem to be randomly thrown together and the lyrics are so so so bad- paticularly the ones you mentioned in your post.

i LOVE this song! it's my fav razorlight song out of all of them, because of the lovely guitar part to it I think it is making a point about america... how all his life there has always been panic and trouble in america, and he doesn't get why because there's been so much stuff about america that it doesn't mean anything to him any more or it could mean nothing, i mean the beauty of a song like this, if it is meaningless, is interpreting it how you want, and relating it to your own personal experience, isn't it?

I think it's about a girl that the artist likes who moved to America. The artist really wants to go to America (because the news seems to be centered around them) and he just wants to like. The girl moving to America as the 'news' that he's just recieved. The last part: There's panic in America She's just in America I think it really shows his emotion for this girl. He's worried about her because a lot of things happen in America, but he's also somewhat jealous. Just an idea! ^_^

I think this song is about beeing seperated from the one person you love and how your life is boring and somehow worthless and all you do is focus on her and how things are for her. and he is waiting and grasping for every little bit of news he gets from her. and he wants her to come back and stay with him. He is looking for something that could make him forget about loneliness and seperation but he can't find a thing that means as much to him so he could forget and he can't even sleep because of his longing for her.

Surprised by the negative feedback, i suppose that's the problem when a band gets successful...the 'cool' don't like that their band has gone mainstream and lash out. It seems to be about your belief in something that influenced you changing, and wondering who is to blame. In this case American culture may be symbolic for something more, or perhaps just questioning whether the view of america has changed for the worse in our lifetimes.

There seems to be a few themes. One of which has to be his feeling of isolation by American Culture. How his life seems boring when compared to coverage on America. For the last verse or so, it seems he is actuall singing 'to' America: Yesterday was easy Yes I got the news When you get it straight, but stand up you just can't lose Give you my confidence, all my faith in life Dont stand me up Don't let me down I need you tonight Non?

I totally agree with violet sky. What an appallingly bad song from an appallingly bad band, starring an appallingly arrogant, untalented, crap so-called musician. If Johnny whatever-his-name-is thinks hes somehow rewriting musical history with his crappy music then he is seriously mistaken. The fact remains that someone like Bob Dylan or John Lennon and all the other musical legends have more talent in their big toes than this band and any of the other crappy bands kicking about these days have put together. Johnny who?

I don't anybody has understood the grand theme of the song. I think it has both and individual and global thread to it. The individual thread is the sadness and happiness, basically the emotion of individual human experience. The global thread is basically that we have a global super power America, and it concerns us all. It manages to permeate and penetrate the individual, every individual. Like Rome, during the apogee of Roman imperial supremacy, concerned most individuals on the planet, America is the new power that concerns almost every individual on the planet. I guess it's a portrait of modern man. I think this song has been rubbished a bit because the songwriter doesn't seem very positive about American power. This should in no way affect the fact that the lyrics are ambitious and brilliant. I personally feel America has had a positive role in world, but has to brush up on its many bad points.
