Hey,Hey fellow guitarists!
Ths is my first ever tab so I'm completly new with this so I'm asking ye to go easy on
me if this turns out to be completly wrong! I do know that it's good enough to sing to!

Anyway I'm a huge fan of The Chilis and I think this is a great song!

Song: Shallow Be Thy Game
Album: One Hot Minute
Band: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Transcribed by: Ceithre
Tuning: Standard

Intro:

(I Didn't bother with the timing)
4x

g|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
d|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
a|--10--12--10--10--12--10--------------------------------------------|

Verse:
G5 G5 G5 G5 B5
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
g|--------12----------12--------12----------12--14--------------------|
d|--------12----------12--------12----------12--14--------------------|
a|--------10----------10--------10----------10--12--------------------|
e|-12-0-------10-12-------0-12------10-12-----------------------------|

In between the verses Dave Narvarro plays some wierd solo that I couldn't figure out
but ther is no point playing every note exactly!

Chorus:
E5 D5 A5 E5 D5 A5
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
g|------9----7---------9----7-----------------------------------------|
d|------9----7----7----9----7----7------------------------------------|
a|------7----5----7----7----5----7------------------------------------|
e|----------------5--------------5------------------------------------|

In the chorus try using an up, down, up, down strumming technique!

Repeat Verse
Repeat Chorus
Repeat second part of the intro

Again for the solo it is a complicated one so I wasn't able to tab it!
Try using amade up one that will fit!

Repeat first part of the verse
Repeat chorus 2x

Outro:
8x
e|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
b|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
g|--------15----14----------------------------------------------------|
d|--------15----14----------------------------------------------------|

Tnen just finish on E5 on the 5th fret and were done!

I was not created In the likeness of a fraud -I was created in the likeness of god, and he's not a fraud Your hell is something scary I prefer a loving god -we were not all born sinners, my god is a loving god We are not the center Of this funny universe -god is above all, we make up his funny universe, but he still cares and doesn't abandon us And what is something worse I do not serve In fear of such a curse -I don't live my life that I was born damned, I don't fear god, I love him, as he loves me Shallow be thy game 2000 years look in the mirror -ever since Jesus was born, more and more have split from god's and Jesus' path, looking back, there have been those trying to tarnish god's name because of Jesus, You play the game of shame And tell your people live in fear -you make up lies about god and Jesus to scare your followers into fearing a hateful god that doesn't exist A rival to the way you see The bible let him be -your going against what the bible says, back off, and let those who believe read and believe the truth of the scriptures I'm a threat to your survival And your control company -I threaten your power, as I’m speaking out about your lies, and god's love shall overcome, CHORUS: You'll never burn me You'll never burn me I'll be your heretic You can't contain me I am the power free Truth belongs to everybody -I’m a heretic to the church, which clouds your mind with lies and hatred of a loving god, I’m speaking out of the truth, and you can't overcome me, because god is on my side To anyone who's listenin' You're not born into sin -you're not born into predestination, god hasn't decided your fate, although he knows what your prone to, but listen to me, I will tell of a good, and just god The guilt they try and give you Puke it in the nearest bin -don't listen to the bull that your born a sinner, humans make mistakes, and god forgives, don't believe that you screwed to begin with, it's not true Missionary madness Sweep up culture w/ a broom -the movement of the religious system has sucked up culture, and small groups' own religious beliefs Trashing ancient ways Is par for the course -we've gone from the course of old ways of god's love, and believe we were born sinners It's fucking rude To think that you're above The laws of nature is a joke -these religious leaders think they're above it all, and try to go against the real god, and teach of their own god for personal benefit Purple sashes feeding masses Smoke on which to choke I might be a monkey When it comes to being holy -I may not be the most holy, Fundamental hatred Get down on your knees and -but if your totally against god, shut up Peace, Jware

I don't agree with a lot of your analysis, Jware, but it's a good one still. :) For example, I think "We are not the center of this funny universe" more resembles the fact that Christians in the old days used to believe that the earth was the center of the universe, and that all other planets and stars went around us, not the other way. People who disagreed with that was killed and burned by Christians.

yeah Yeah that's what it's about. There's a lot of songs out there by Christian-bashers. When is someone gonna write a song about how Muslims have been torturing and murdering people for centuries? Until someone does though, this'll do. This song kicks ass.

Its all about religion, especially Christianity, but organized religion in general, and how its pretty silly and what they believe (loving god, letting people believe how they like). Thats awesome cause I believe the same stuff, RHCP is amazing.

This has got to be one of my favourite "message" songs ever. Great lyrics.

And my guess would be it's from the Lord's prayer rather then the Iron Maiden song...

A strong answer to the catholic churches tendency towards arrogance and sometimes even fear of other culture/ways of living. Christianity can be very oppressive. Clearly Anthony sees it as a way of controlling the masses, rather than enlightening them.

I agree, I think a big clue is in the line "A rival to the way you see the bible let him be", Catholisism in many cases, has very little basis in the bible, it is more about fear and trafition.

I believe in the spiritualist views of the afterlife because I believe that the abilities of psychics and mediums are genuine. It took me alot of convincing but I have been convinced. Spiritualism is not an organised religion as such although it is recognised as a religion in many countries, there is alot more freedom of how you practise it, which appeals to be alot more than Christianity. This is a great song. Spiritualists also believe in a loving god and don't believe that god judges you alone. They believe that you judge yourself by the actions and deeds you perform in this life and you will be rewarded for the good deeds but will also have to learn lessons, some may be harsh in the afterlife. But the spiritualists I've talked to there is no such thing as 'eternal damnation' as this was a translation error in the Bible. Essentially they believe that a soul's path is one of enlightenment and in our current existence we must do everything we can to strive towards this path.

And another thing...people who think RHCP can't write clear, powerful lyrics have obviously not been listening to anything other than the current radioplay. If I hear anyone else say "Anthony writes crap lyrics" I will destroy them.
