Re: mass media. I read an interview with Anthony Kiedis in which he was complaining about the so-called "rock resurgence", and saying that even if RHCP went around in limosuines all day they would still be more punk rock than these kids, because they were making music because they loved it, rather than just taking advantage of what was cool now. So definitely more than a hint. #I'm Yertle the Turtle, oh marvellous me, for I am the ruler of alllll that I see...I think I should go talk on the page for that song.

The television has been a metaphor for commercialised modern values for a long time now. It makes sense that the Peppers would say "throw it out".

i think its saying get out of this place or this stage in your life because you will get hurt again. it uses the metaphore of a TV as your life. so it is saying trow away your current life and start fresh with someone else or somewhere else or whatever the situation. This song is really good as is nearly every RHCP song ever but the problem it has is the same as alot of the songs on the "by the way" album, that is in my oppinion it promises to get heavy but never does. the whole album is really mellow compared to their others, that isnt a bad thing as the songs are really good but i was expecting an even better revamped new millenium version of "blood sugar sex magik" which i didnt get. after hearing the frist track before i had the album i thought that 2002 would have the true summer of rock fronted by the chili peppers but it isnt. the album and this song are still really good though.

I agree about what you said about By The Way being really mellow. I think they did it just too cash in on the "pop music industry" because it is worth more to them to make a "pop" album, then to make a “funk” album. That is what is wrong with "the music industry" it is not about the music from the heart, but it is now about music that will just make money for the big music companies. I would say that you should try and get a copy of blood sugar sex magik. It is what the chilis are really about.

i hate bands that sell-out more than anything.but rhcp did not and willnever sell out..they haev been through so much shit and are so sincere with the fans that i could never imagine them being sell outs.the new cd is soo awesome...in a different way than the rest.theyre keeping the albums interesting rather than put out the same album 8 different times...ppl grow.change, and mature.event he chili peppers.this is just how they have matured .they have ,in no way.sold out.
