Higher Ground. One of the best cover songs of all time. I got it

to my inbox. Thanks!

The religious beliefs of the Peppers has always puzzled me. This song does sound like it's talking about reincarnation, but the "He let me try it again" makes me think otherwise. The only religions that I know of that support reincarnation are Buddhism and Hinduism (and maybe some New-age stuff)--but then again, Stevie may have had his own beliefs, I don't know if he was Christian or otherwise--but anyway, Buddhism (as far as I know) doesn't have a God-figure ("He" in the song), and I'm pretty sure neither Stevie or Anthony are Hindu. I'm pretty confused, yeah. Maybe "Last time on earth" doesn't literally mean his last life? Eskimo 8--lol, that's where I heard it too. Heard it again like 8 years later on the radio. Anyway... awesome song, amazing bass.

This song is on the Power Rangers Movie. First time i heard it was in that, lol. Not many bands can get away with being in the Power Rangers Movie, Chilis can.

I absolutely love this song. I agree with everyone else about the trying and doing your best but the first time I heard it I thought it was about reincarnation "I'm so darn glad he let me try it again 'cause the last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin" and the parts that say "Preachers, keep on preachin'" etc. were about the fact that if you lived a good life you would be moved up the reincarnation cycle. But this sounds stupid. I think it makes more sense when you think of it just as that you have had another chance at life.

Yeh it's about being reincarnated. It's bit ironic it sorta says that they've changed and become good people, but Flea and John were on drugs at this moment and the whole band had doing alot of dodgey things. I think its funny cause of that.

I can see the reincarnation idea: the last time on earth he lived a whole world of sin, but he's going to do better so he can reach Nirvana, or the highest ground. But I can also see it as being born again: he's changed his life around, he knows more than he used to and wants to better his life so he can get to heaven. Then again, maybe it's something entirely different. But what?

I thought that one of the best versions of this song was on the 'Out In LA' album. The 12" Vocal Mix. But tis a good song, whatever.
