| Like this song, not to fond of it though. I reckon the part John plays at the beginning sounds like the beginning of over the hills and far away (Led Zeppelin) and wish you were here (Pink Floyd). | |

| the wet sand part that is seeming to escape everyone is doing so because it means... nothing... when john frusciante was jamming the music to this at band practice before the lyrics were written and he was mumblin some random words, and anthiny heard some of em... one of the things john mumbled was "Wet Sand"... which anthony felt was just an incredible phrase... so, ya... thats what that is... anyway, this is one of my favorite slow jams on the cd, probably second right after slow cheetah... | |

| About the "wet sand" part... He feels complete and finds himself only when he is constantly moving and changing, like the wet sand in the tide. WIth one wave, the wet sand can be taken away to any distant spot. The time in his life where he was part of the changing tide has gone ("my love affair with everywhere/was innocent-why do you care?"), but it's imperitive that the woman understands who he is. It is hard for her to do so, however, because she doesn't even understand who she is. She's beautiful, but troubled. ("the disrepair of Norma Jean/cannot compare to your routine"). He is willing to give up his free life to settle down with her, but it's an idea that he has to give time to grow on him. ("I'm consecrated, but I'm not devout/The mother, the father, the daughter"). He keeps coming back to the fact that underneath it all, she doesn't even know what makes her feel complete. ("You don't form at all") | |

| Search Anthony Kiedis on google news search and click on the link titled "Peppers are lost in space". Don't worry, even though the beginning sounds like they're trashing RHCP, they later praise the new album. Further down the page, they talk about songs and have many song meanings. Supposedly this song is about Anthony having a fight with a girl, where Anthony believes in divine creation and the girl believes in evolution. | |
