Actually, I took a very different meaning on the whole song: the whole thing is about a twisted revenge story. History's so strong is the backstory that caused the singer to want to get revenge. Things like "a pistol and its pawn" are the makings of the plan. However before the singer goes through with the kill to get back at the "one picks is broken down devotion", i.e, the betrayal that started the hatred, he comes to a revelation that makes him "throw his pistol in the ocean", and as he slowly starts to realize what he was doing was wrong, his "eyes are wide with revelation" and he goes to the police station to get the guy arrested or jacked for whatever his betrayal was. Then the verdict comes around, and the singer knows the traitor is getting what's coming to him. So he says stay all night, we save the population, as in, instead of continuing a cycle of death, I'll just save the population and get him busted. I hope that didn't sound too far fetched...

probably meaning like... everything you do is adding to the list of things youve done and gotten away with. Ever night you go drinking, and get away with it, is one more to the list. It's also all about the memories, and the good times that keep you going, and trying new things. Ever notice the best nights of your life, were some of the craziest? Also, i think it could have some reference to the band themselves, and all they've been through. cuz they have a long involved history behind them, or something.

That would make a lot of sense too. The song was originally titled "History."

the song is about how fucked up the world is- drugs, hookers, violence references are in this songs- and how it needs change. the population needs saved from their own society.
