Yay, I'm the first to post! Anyway, I think this song is a big disapointment. It shows one of the directions Relient K has, sadly, chosen to take. The actual message is great, but the presentation is rather morbid if you ask me, like the part that talks about "bodies limp on the floor" which is just nasty to me. Sure, the love between them might have died, but surely there is a better way to say it. I also don't like how close it comes to some bad language in the lines "To see that you've been aptly damned." They could have said "condemned," but they didn't. I love Relient K and I always will, but this trend of unnecessary morbidity is a sad, sad thing for me, a fan who likes their upbeat pop/punk style better (Like is found on Two Lefts).

ok, here's the meaning i kinda got out of this song: the first section of the song is talking about two people who are in a squabble of sorts, and they can't seem to make up, cause neither of them want to talk about it. all the other person can see is the wrong that has been done to them, and for that, they won't even think about forgiving. ("you can't see past the blood on my hands") the chorus doesn't quite seem to fit the song, but it's the part i like best. it's kinda saying that everyone has sinned. ''we think the thoughts, whether or not we see them though''. it's so incredibly true. i so often look down on people who have sinned 'more' than i have, when in reality, it was only my fear of the consequences that kept me from doing it in the first place. the rest of the song just kinda seems to keep talking about the two people that have completely ruined their relationship by not airing out whatever problem was there, and now they're 'bodies limp on the floor/victims of falling short' which, by the way, is exactly what the Bible said all humans do. "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." so in conclusion, we can't think we're better than others just because we haven't acted on our sinful thoughts. sorry for that tome. :)

I honestly think that Relient K is trying to attract the non-christians so they can become Christians, you know? xx_songbird_xx

this line is really important i thing: 'we're all guilty of the same things/we think the thoughts whether or not we see them through'. God says that to Him hating someone is the same as killing them... thinking lustful thoughts is the same as commiting adultery. A person who thinks and a person who acts are both guilty of the same thing. BUT 'I know that I have been forgiven'... so the first lines of the chorus tell us of sin then the second two assure us that all is not lost, we can and will be forgiven. That's what i get from it anyway. Peace :) (btw i agree with gahenderson.. this is not a site for bashing songs!)

Amazing song. And, the use of 'damned' is fine. Everyone take deep breaths. =D Anyway, very catchy song. Can't wait for the new album; it sounds great.

AMAZING song. This who controversy is ridiculous. I'm glad everyone is over it. The meaning of this song is really straight forward and uplifting, if you can get over the "morbid" sound of it.

Well, technically "damned" isn't bad language in that case, it just means exactly the same thing as condemned. I don't see this song as too morbid... I mean, it's more morbid than any of the previous stuff, but I liked how it raised up in hope in the choruses. And I feel that without the darkness of the verses, the light of the chorus wouldn't have shined quite so bright. My two cents. =)

cause in the bible it says that if you even look at a man or woman with lust you have commited adultry with them in your heart. so therefore you commited adultry. and a lot of christians don't remember that. they think oh well i'm such a good person and a good christian because i have'nt done all these bad things...but just thinking them is sinful as well.and i think thats a really important lesson that we all need to be reminded of.

Meaning is simple, we are being controlled by conformity, and we cannot forgive each other, even though we have all been forgiven by God through Jesus Christ.

I freakin' love this song! The paino in it is nice and Matt's vocals are always great to listen to. Not quite sure what it means though, but by the title, I think it is about how we all have been forgiven and we can forgive each other...but that's what I get from the song, it could mean something totally different

jhpiv4, I'd like you to look at something you've said in a different perspective. You say you dont like how they use the word 'damned' because it can be used as bad language but I agree with Ler that in this case it means the same as condemned. Now look at it this way. In their song Failure to Excommunicate they mention Jesus, now the name Jesus can be used as bad language but Not always. Do you think that song is less good because they use a word that can be used in a good sense or bad one (they obviously weren't using Jesus in a bad way)

Yeah you guys are right, they still are good. (I know that, now that I listened to "I Need You") Sorry about that other post, it was premature. Don't think just from that post that I hate the direction Relient K is going, I love it (now that I've heard more). I just didn't like that one song and was unsure if the rest was also going to be that way (with the whole "Faking My Own Suicide" I thought for sure it was the case). WishingForYou is right, it is a catchy song. And kered, yes you're right, it is not a curse word; it is in the Bible, and they probably used it to sort of shock people into realizing the severity of what they were saying. Condemned might not have done the trick there. Oh, and I can't wait for the album either. (Relient K is still and will always be my favorite band! You can see that from some of my other posts). -JHPIV

ok ok too much arguing. haha. they used the word damned to emphasize how we are so truly condemned. as apposed to just using condemned. its emphasis on how we can be forgiven and saved even though we are all damned to go to hell. its as simple as that. no bad language in that. some people just need to mature and just seriously grow up about stuff like "OH THE BIBLE USED THE WORD ASS" when it is used as a donkey's name. same with damn. thats all

Yeah, he just used a word that means the same thing as "Condemmed" shush up about it!!!!! If you don't like it don't post dumb comments like that! Since they are christian, the lead singer is talking how God has forgiven him of all the bad things he's ever done and that the person he's talking to can'tforgiven him the same, full way God has.

I think it will be interesting to see if there any controversy over this when the new album comes out. Remember in 2003 when Evanescence got removed from Christian airwaves because of cursing. While I don't think it is a big deal, I'm sure it will annoy some idiot out there.

everyone doesn't need to jump on jhpiv4, i definitley see what he's saying, it could definitley offend some people out there That being said, i like the song's darker tone, i just think the chorus is a bit cheesy, i mean... i like them staying Christian, but the verses are so dark and then he just goes way too high on the chorus and it's just cheesy lyrics too, he needs something deeper on the chorus

It's amazing that people copmlain that Relient K is going secular and when Relient K comes out with a christian song (which they had many between mmhmm and apathetic E.P.) and people still complain that the song is bad because he uses a word that when used in the wrong context can be considered a bad word, and I'm a sick of people saying they aren't the real Relient K anymore because they don't sound as punky as they used too. They are the same Relient K with a more mature sound, kinda like a kid they grow up and become more mature. It isn't just you (jhpiv4) I'm talking about, but many others I have heard complaining about how they're changing, and I agree with Ler "without the darkness of the verses, the light of the chorus wouldn't have shined quite so bright. "

who cares if it could offend some people? There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. The word "damned" is used in the Bible. This song is absolutely amazing and has a great message, and if anyone is offended by it, they need to rethink things, cuz there's nothing wrong with what they've said.
