You people complaining about this song have got some major issues. What's so horribly wrong about it? It's music. Get over it if you think it's shallow. I love the song, and I think it can relate to anybody in any situation. You just have to listen to the lyrics to understand. It's a question to anyone: How do you measure a year? It's beautiful, and it makes you think.

I.. absolutely... -loathe- this song. every time I hear it, it fills me with the inane urge to beat the singers over their heads with a plank of rotting, termite infested wood. AAGH. Nothing personal, Rent's great, but this song... I don't know what it is about it, but I hate it. Screw j00, "seasons of love".

Soloist #2's part has some references in there to RENT. "in truths that she learned" Possible reference to April learning she was HIV + or Roger and Mimi learning the same about each other "The times that he cried" Reference to Collins losing Angel "In bridges he burned" Reference to Roger trying to get rid of his love of Mimi, by leaving for Santa Fe "The way that she died" Reference to April's suicide or Angel's death from AIDS. I read that somewhere and I thought it was a good explanation for that part of the song. A good song, though it isn't the best song in RENT.

I love this song. I don't understand why it's getting bashed. Not only does it sound absolutely beautiful, the lyrics convery a wonderful message. They're simple, but they speak volumes. "Measure your life in love." What better way to measure your life?

It's sentimental, sappy tripe. That might be why you hate it. I'm a huge musical theatre geek, and proud of it. I'm also a closeted Rent hater. It's for my own safety.

he used "inane" right you retards, he's saying that even though he wants to beat them, he thinks its so stupid that he shouldn't even waste the effort. Try thinking the next time you try to sound smart.

"every time I hear it, it fills me with the inane urge to beat the singers over their head" --weezer inane: 1 : EMPTY, INSUBSTANTIAL 2 : lacking significance, meaning, or point : SILLY i like it when people use words they dont know the meaning of but try to sound smart anyways :) good song though, strong message i like it whenever i'm feeling sappy

They made us sing this in chorus. The bad chorus, that is: I'm also part of the smaller, better chorus. So for me this song means grating harmonies...

ive found so much meaning in such simple words.. you measure a year in the relationships, friendships etc that youve nurtured or even ended.. its the simplicity that makes it so hard for people like you to enjoy. youre on a song meanings site.. of course youre already thinking too hard.

ARGH THIS SONG HAS THE VERY ANNOYING TENDANCY TO GET IN YOUR HEAD AND NOT REMOVE ITSELF FOR A VERY LOOOONG TIME!.....sheesh....some of you might be able to relate.....but I suppose its a good song, even though I'm not a big fan of it.....you must applaude good song writing, even if it is a form of cruel and unusual punishment....as musicals go, of course.....anyways, to my point. Annoying. But. Surprisingly. A. Good. Song. As. Sappy. Songs. Go. There, I said it. That took a bit of effort....

Good going, br3w3d!! Haha... But xelectrickissesx has a really good point. You "rent haters" need to chill out. I feel that the message in this song is not deep at all, and most of you are looking so far under the surface of this song that you're not finding anything, getting upset, and completely ignoring the fact that its right there, floating ontop, right under your noses. And, if you dont want that (up there^) to happen to you, look up the meaning of the word before you POST IT ON THE NET for the whole NATION to see.

This was our grad choir song, and althouugh no untrained singers should EVER attempt it again, it has a lot of meaning for us graduates. The truths we learned, the times we cried and the bridges we burned all make us the people who we have become today. Yes it's soppy, yes if you listen to it too much you will go crazy, but it's a cute song.

This is a really sweet song, and my parents absolutely adore it. Sure, it's annoying at first, but once you listen to it a lot, you get the meaning, and you start singing along, and yeah. It's a really really good song, just listen to the lyrics. But it's rather quite self explanatory. Isn't it?

anyone ever heard "The Song is Over" by the Who? The begining of The Song is Over has similarities to Seasons of Love, I think at least. Listen to it sometime, its on the album Who's Next. Good Song.
