Rilo Kiley - With Arms Outstretched
From 'The Execution of All Things'
Label: Saddle Creek
I don't know what the noise is at the beginning. it doesn't sound like a guitar, so this
tab starts where that sound ends.
verse: E A F#m B
chorus:( A B E )x2 ... A B C#m E A B E
E A B F#m C#m
e 0 | 5 | 7 | 2 | 4 |
B 0 | 5 | 7 | 2 | 5 |

E A
Its 16 miles, to the promise land
F#m B E
and I promise you, I'm doing the best I can
E
now don't fool yourself
A
in thinking you're more than a man
F#m B E
cause you'll probably end up dead
E
i visit these
A
mountains with frequency
F#m B E
and i stand here with my arms out
A B E
now somedays they'll last longer than others
A B E
but this day by the lake went too fast
A
and if you want me
B C#m E
you better speak up i won't wait
A B E
so you better, move fast
don't fool yourself
in thinking you're more than you are
with your arms outstretched to me
now its 16 miles to the promised land
and i promise you i'm doing the best i can
now somedays they last longer than others
but this day by the lake went to fast
and if you want me, you better speak up i won't wait
so you better move fast
and somedays they last longer than others
but this day by the lake went to fast
and if you want me, you better speak up i wont wait
so you better move fast

| This is the first Rilo song I ever heard, and I think it is my favorite. And the neat thing is, I have actually outstretched my arms on top of a mountain. I was on a trip to Spain with the school bad (not as nerdy as it seems) and we went to Montserrat, a friend and I stood at the top, looked out and outstretched our arms. I will always remeber that. | |

| I don't usually like songs with group singing in it--they tend to come off a little too singing-by-the-campfire-esque for me--but I absolutely LOVE this song and everything in it. Rilo Kiley is so amazing. The fact that they have songs ranging from 'Always' to this song to "A Better Son/Daughter' just shows how talented they are. | |

| I love this song, to me it has a last night camping with everyone around the campfire feel to it, with the repetition and all, a last hurrah sort of feel. Especially when all the people start singing too and clapping. In that same vein that is what the song is trying to say, this is your last chance so do something about it. | |

| eman2.. wow did you say it right, and this song is so appropriate to those times when someone in a relationship just.. needs to grow/change and just sort stuff out, but they better do it quickly coz the other isn't willing to wait around | |

| My friend had and I were driving around and when this song began to play, she was trying to drink, clap, and smoke all at the same time. It was quite terrifying. I thought the end was near. But I love this song anyway, and it always brings that good memory to mind. | |

| For me, this is about someone in a relationship with two people in very different places. The protagonist, who has an inner peace about themselves, the world around them, and the relationship they are in. The partner, however, is attempting to create problems, is somehow confused about themselves, who they are, and are putting it on the relationship. Jenny's role, it appears, it to wisely say - look, we can move apart if this isn't work - I can live with out you, I'm at peace, and I'm not going to let that change. You are under delusions about yourself - you got to get it together - be humble, come to a place of peace within yourself, and join me on the road I'm traveling if you want to be with me. Otherwise, you're going to be left behind. | |

| This is a song all girls should relate too. Its about a girl and a guy who like each other and spend a great day together.. but the man wont make a move. So she warns him, not to think he is a super god who can have any girl just fall over him (now dont fool yourself, in thinking your more than a man) She plainly tells him, “if you want me, you better speak up, i wont wait, so you better move fast" So if the guy doesn’t tell the girl he likes her, she will just move on, so he "better speak up." | |

| I absolutely love the "this day by the lake went too fast" part, to me that has the most meaning. There are days like that in all our lives, the last day of a perfect camp or vacation or some other escape from life where you are with people you love and it always goes by too fast. Beautiful. | |

| My best friends played and sang this a couple days before we all left for college, so it still brings a tear to my eye. It may not seem relevant to that, but i can help but think of friends and how quickly time passes when she says "and somedays they last longer than others but this day by the lake went too fast" | |

| "don't fool yourself in thinking you're more than you are with your arms outstretched to me " I love that part cause it's what stood out to me from the rest of the song. What I took it as most likely has nothing to do what the song is about but that's why only the section of it stood out to me :p I took it as people thinking they're such much better by reaching out to you, and sort of looking down on you for doing so and sort of minimizing the importance of.. whatever they're helping you out with. Sort of like.. don't feel superior to someone just because they need help. And if they don't ask for it, don't act like you hold all the answers by reaching out. ..yep. | |

| I love, love, love this song. But I cant help but flinch during this part... "With your arms outstretched to me " Jenny is an amzing singer, but she kind of screeched on the "me" part of this line. Has anyone else recognized this? I wonder why they'd keep that. Don't get me wrong though, the song is still AMAZING, and so is Jenny. | |

| The beginning is brilliant... I've felt this way before, being with friends before... and it's just that, after everything you've been through, you're looking for that goal... and sometimes you just cannot get there... but there is always someone who says, it's right there, around that corner! But in order to get it, you have to be quick about it. Seize the day? Or girl? | |
