Artist: Rilo Kiley
Song: Portions For Foxes
It's three seperate guitar parts I think, so I've tried to
simplify it to one so you can play and sing along on an acoustic.

| i thought that the line "portions for foxes" had a more literal meaning: we're all going to die anyway (foxes are scavengers and will eat us up...gross, i know) so i'm going to throw caution to the wind and stay in this relationship. i like the idea of men being the foxes, though. | |

| yeah. i'm in this sort of relationship right now. i know she's not great for me. shes not even okay for me. shes just plain ol' "bad news" but being around that sort of destructive person can feel great. and we're just the worst sort of influence on each other. and i like it. | |

| i think this song is less about an actual relationship and more about a friends with benefits sort of situation. to me this song screams “I like you more than you like me.” a lot of us have been there before, you start as “just friends” you start sleeping together, and someone falls for the other and all the “other” wants is a sexual relationship. I also believe that’s where the line “I know I’m alone if I’m with or without you” comes from, because even when she’s “with” that person she’s not truly with him the way she wants to be so either way she’s alone [physically, mentally, or emotionally.] I think the lines, “I don't blame you/I do the same thing/I get lonely too” also screams “friends with benefits” because it’s like she’s saying as much as I want to be with you, more than sexually, I don’t blame you for going out and looking for sex because I get lonely and I do it as well. or maybe I’m off all together and just trying to make this song more like the situation I’m in then it really is. | |

| Beautiful, bloody beautiful - Im gonna cry; I had a fling with a girl who was like that - we both didnt suit eachother, but "portioned" eachother like foxes - It was, for both of us, "Bad News" - the C'mere part is bloody sexy and I feel that she would have said those exact lines of "with or without you" lyrics - but my favourite part is the bridge, because there is no mystery left after sex - that is romantically immoral, for all humans; that's just "bad news" - top notch song! | |

| i absolutely HATE the video. I HATE IT WITH A PASSION because its messing with one of my favorite songs. its like they got a director of a britney spears video and asked him what his vision was for an indie rock video and he said, "taxidermy, and i'll zoom in and out alot and make the lights blink on and off." why couldn't they get michel gondry to do it? jenny still looked good though. | |

| I actually quite dont agree Heather. I don't think it's about women and men being against each other, I think it's more about us all being portions of foxes, exactly like black courduroy said. I think this song is where both the people involved know that it's just a bad idea to get involved, but they just don't want to care, lol. | |

| basically states how women are basically objects (portions) for men (foxes). And how women are used and treated like shit by some men yet the women stay with them b/c they fear lonliness. I def. can relate to this song and it's my favorite on the new cd. I was in a relationship just like this song describes once, he was using me but I kept calling him begging him to "come here" and once the sex was over I told myself I'd never call him again, yet the next day I was usually at it again. :( | |

| i think most people will be able to relate this song to past love experiences in their lives...let it be their 'theme tune'! the line:'I know I'm alone if I'm with or without you but just bein' around you offers me another form of relief' is has particular impact on me. the whole "cant live with em cant live without em" ideology but in a more poetic way. this song is amazing...i adore | |

| that's actually what i thought it was first too! i'm kind of in between. the literal part is really on, especially since the lyrics is "and we'll all be (portions for foxes)." And that fits much more with the video I suppose. Actually, I don't get the idea of the video that much...lol | |

| The part of the song that talks about her getting lonely and calling the fellow, that part is cool. This song is what a lot of girls (and guys) get themselves into... you know a person is wrong for you, but you like them anyway. I love that Jenny sings this because it makes her more real, if that makes any sense. | |

| I first saw Rilo Kiley this September when they opened for Coldplay. I didn't know she was one of the chicks who sang in the Postal Service, too. Even before I realized that I was drawn to her for some reason.. she's quite good. I'm definitely keeping my eye on them now. | |
