I thought this song was talkin about people hoping and praying for something to happen so much that eventually it just happened on it's own yet they think they had some thing to do with the occurence, like the war ending (which the song has to be about- worlds colliding, distance reminds). Native americans danced for rain which of course didn't help but they believed it did with conviction. Maybe they did cause it. We can do the same and dance for peace to wash away the war/drought (not literally kids). will it be our doing when war ends? probably not directly. but it's better than sitting doing nothin. After hearing The First Drop you get a better understanding. but doesn't completely wipe out the above. The First Drop could be looked at as the dance for rain/peace. By telling others to join in your calling of the first bit of cleansing and revival of peace. The songs mean so much but this is the background of it for me. The scene the songs set in my mind are so vast more than any movie or something could ever manage. s'why i love rise against so much. The meloncholy of the Dancing for Rain introduction is like sadly reminiscing a vast arrid landscape. then the song is so angry and challenging like a stampeding people similar to First drop. Gotta have more songs like these on the new album. They so will. Bush getting a second term=unhappy RA members=More hardcore heartfelt politico music for me to obssess over. can't wait. lol.

Ok.. These lyrics aren't 100% correct, so I'll post the correct versions of the parts that are wrong. 1. "what if it all disapears in the shadows? now reach for the stars" SHOULD be: What if it all dissapears in the shadows, that reach from the start. 2. (Has been said) "We drink the air but it's so not the same." SHOULD be: We drink the air but it's still not the same. 3. (not too sure about this one) "the waters come but the fire still rages on here" Could be: The water's calm but the fire still rages on here. 4. "you've let me try but i'm still breathing " SHOULD be: You've bled me dry, but I'm still breathing. Cleared that up, moving on to the song. I think it's about problems that have been going on for a long time. "this drought bleeds on now were dancing for rain " means that the problems continue, while we're searching for answers. That what I think. Rise Against is the greatest band ever..

think about this......different prospectives of a firefighter in the first verse, and a victim in the second.

This song is definately religious in meaning. I think he is talking to God directly when he asks "If I held my ground would you ask me to change?" The drought is obviously saying they need water to survive, and they are not getting it. They need God right now and he is not there for him.. Their worlds collide but the distance remains.. They point the finger at God for what happens in life, but never accept it themselves. "The waters come but fire still rages on here.." God helped out people around them but didn't help them.. They dance for rain because they are losing faith and feel they need to take matters in to their own hands. And my favorite line.. "... And you wont ever find us knealing, or swallowing your liiies." They are not going to pray to him anymore and believe in the lies..

Well I could be completely wrong here or maybe I am seeing this as a 3rd party observer (me being Canadian). But I believe this song is about both 9/11, the war in Iraq, and how Americans now treat people of middle eastern decent. Listening to this song I imagine a house on fire in Iraq and US soldiers standing by and watching. "under the veil of dust we go on" Very dry and dusty in Iraq "these worlds colide but the distance remains" US and Iraq have crashed into one another but they still are very different and opposed to one another. "will you save us like you saved them?" You saved the people in the buildings in 9/11, so why not us now? Once again this could be just a crazy theory but tell me what you guys think.

3. (not too sure about this one) "the waters come but the fire still rages on here" Could be: The water's calm but the fire still rages on here should be.. the waters gone but the fire still rages on. and to the song. i agree with you. but in my eyes it also involves the problem of global warming. that is causeing alot of heat strikes and droughts...and or will...
