Responding to bugmenot, the reason there best songs have less coments is because they are harder to understand. I think this song has more to it than i can ever understand, i only understand a little bit. great song though.

Spokes, that seems to make a hell of a lot of sense here. The opening line "so look in my eyes, what will you leave behind once you've gone?" challenges the listener to think about what they are doing for society, particularly in comparison with the angels, and ghosts, those inderviduals who have shaped this world we live in. The great imagery here of the blood of angels being on us all fits perfectly. The people who have fallen for our ideals blood is on our hands, because we have benifit from their sacrifice. The only way we can make up for this is by taking up their banners, bringing the ghosts back to life, and taking their causes as our own. People today are content with how far we have come. They look backwards and see how things were, and how much better they are today. The idealists, anarchists, equal rights protesters, feminists and other progressives all look forwards, to some goal towards which we can work. How far we have come doens't matter. What matters is how far we have left to go, and that we keep moving.

guys, Rise Against writes good lyrics, but they aren't hard to understand. this songs about standing up for yourself and leaving your mark. reminds me of Bad Religion and Pennywise musically, which is what Rise Against should sound like. by far their best song.

When i hear this song I think of Native Americans. I live in NY so I have seen them protesting. (There is a reservation nearby upstate.) To no one do the streets of America belong to more than to them. "So look in my eyes, what will you leave behind once you've gone? you got what you came for now i think it's time to move on" This could be the Explorers who conquered this land. "Head hung from shame we bear a weight that brings me to a crawl these years of longing tell decades of unwashed calls for a change" After being kicked out of your own home wouldn't you feel some sort of shame, and longing? "My hands are soaking in the blood of angels on broken wings they collapse dark clouds exploded and torrents of rain fell all these lost halos wash away" This could be Tim's dedication to all the innocents killed during the brutal takeover. Just my opinion, what I've always got from the song

it's a tribute song to past protestors, union workers, anarchists, progressives, and the like of the past and present. i think the singer is also frustrated with not being able to do enough in modern day fights. i think the chorus should be read like a conversation. the phrase you've got what you came for now i think it's time to move on, means to me that conservative procapitalists think our protests are a single fight, when in acutality our streets are filed with endless rallies
