honestly this song doesnt remind me of breaking up. it reminds me of when i miss my girlfriend. when i cant see her, like on vacation or not with her. i miss her.& honestly the part i miss most about her is her eyes. god theyre amazing! sorry about that. haha. personally though the song to me, yes it could mean breaking up. but to me it reminds me when your missing the person you belong with all the time. its tough you know? i think that he misses the train because hes not really sure if he wants to leave her to wherever he might go. & the seagulls just remind him that he isnt alone but he still needs to go no matter how hard it is. if what i wrote is weird or confusing im sorry.

I think they are saying they can handle so much in this world, but losing who they love, and the look in their eyes is just too hard for them. He will "land on the ground" or possibly find another's eyes to look into.

No wonder why I feel attached to this song, even though I had not a clue about what it meant it reminded me of someone I ended a relationship with...Lahdydah nailed it..

I think this song could also be about being able to stand on your own 2 feet as a single person: "i can handle a lot " "im washing my hands of attachments" And while it's a great feeling to be able to rely on yourself I think he could miss certain aspects of being in a relationship. "yeah i will land on the ground but one thing I’m missing is in your eyes"

I think that this song is about the person he loves not resipricating that love. It seems like he's not around and that the people (birds) are telling him that he's not the only one in the relationship. That there's someone else in the picture, which is why he doesn't see that love in her eyes anymore. However, eventhough he knows this he's willing to put his neck on the line because he misses the love that used to be in her eyes. Hence, he says it's hard to finish this part, but that e can handle it all for the sake of their relationship. Just my take on the song.

I was wonder if anyone could make out the words to the background voice during the 2nd time he repeats "your eyes, your eyes" To me, it sort of sounds like they are saying "Could...I...find...you" Can anyone confirm this???

perhaps this song is about someone that is forced to end the relationship, for one reason or another, although he knows that it's the last thing he wants to do, because she is his best friend; his girlfriend; his everything. he's catching a train home and "washing his hands of attachments," so perhaps he is leaving for somewhere far away and knows that the distance is impassable; therefore forcing him to leave the one he loves...

to me this song is all about indecisivness. the confusion of being in a relationship and figuring out if it is what is right for both people at that particular moment. being able to back away and be on your own, but know you will still always care for that person and miss them.

I can't believe no one has commented on this song. This is such a great song and I like how its simply done. For the meaning of this song, to me it seems a little sad. When he says, "but one thing I'm missing is in your eyes." Seems the guy really likes someone, but that person doesn't really feel the same way. Still a great song.

This is a really great song, I heard it on the soundtrack for both "Just Friends" & "Heroes" and I am loving it. I adore the way the singer says "last train home".

success in work, but at the same time failure in a relationship, although the music makes the lyrics a bit more optimistic

this is about something significant missing in a person's life which can only be found in the presence of another. like filling a void but finding out in the end that nothing can substitute for that loss.

this song is very calming and refreshing. its like everything's going to be okay kind of beat. perhaps this song is about someone who reminded you of utmost tranquility whenever you look his/her eyes.

As everyone said it is the end of a relationship, and I think if you listen to the chorus it is an end against his will, or against what he would have wanted. It starts off with him missing the train, which is a normal thing but as always when you're down you feel like you're being kicked more than anyone else. So as he stands there the birds are singing and so he isn't all alone in life, like it feels because he lost his love. Then he wants to do his best to accept that its over, do his best to deal with the end of it and be strong. He is pretty sure he can deal with all of it, and that he won't die just because they aren't together or anything. He's a strong guy and can live on his own and know that liife will go on. But the fact of the matter is that when he looks into her eyes none of that stuff mattered, and its not about surviving life, its about living it. He can survive life, but the only way for him to live it was with her, and he saw that in her eyes and he thinks that it could have been the same for her, that she could have been happier with him. That's why they say "open your eyes", "don't close your eyes", "it's all in your eyes". He's gonna live, and things still remind him of her and them together, and he's gonna take a big fall and hit the ground hard. But he will survive, though he knows that he won't really live without her, he'll just survive and his only chance at happiness is in her eyes. One of my favorite songs ever, I just discovered it in the movie "Just Friends", awesome movie, and the song goes fairly well when they use it, but I think it is just amazing as a song on its own. Oh, and I think the happy beat is for the girl's benefit because she probably would worry that he's gonna like ruin his life and never try and meet anyone else, but he wants her to know that if he turns out to be wrong he'll be ok, but if he's right then his happiness lies in her eyes.
