Song: Dead Flowers
Artist: Rolling Stones
Album: Sticky Fingers

Tabbed By: Michael MacMillan

Here's a great and easy strum-along song by the Stones. It's essentially
three chords throughout the whole song and it has a country feel to it.

Intro: Dsus2 D A G D

D A G D
Well when you're sittin there, in your silk apholstered chair

D A G D
Talkin to some rich folk that you know

D A G D
Well I hope you wont see me, in my ragged company

D A G D
cause you know I could never be alone

Pre-chorus:

A D
Take me down little Suzie, take me down

A D
I know you think you're the queen of the underground

Chorus:

G D Dsus4 D Dsus2
You can send me dead flowers every morning

G D Dsus4 D Dsus2
Send me dead flowers by the mail

G D Dsus4 D Dsus2
Send me dead flowers at my wedding

G A D
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave

Verse II: (same chords as above)

D A G D
Well when you're sittin back in your rose pink cadillac

D A G D
Makin bets on Kentucky Derby day

D A G D
Well I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon

D A G D
And another girl can take my pain away

Pre-chorus:

A D
Take me down little Suzie, take me down

A D
I know you think you're the queen of the underground

Chorus:

G D Dsus4 D Dsus2
And you can send me dead flowers every morning

G D Dsus4 D Dsus2
Send me dead flowers by the mail

G D Dsus4 D Dsus2
Send me dead flowers to my wedding

G A D
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave

Solo

A D
Take me down little Suzie, take me down

A D
I know you think you're the queen of the underground

G D
And you can send me dead flowers every morning

G D
send me dead flowers by the U.S. mail

G D
Say it with dead flowers at my wedding

G A D
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave

That's it. This is a great song and fun to play. I hope you enjoy.

It'll never end. Why don't we just say all songs by all bands are about heroin. Grow a brain.

this song is saying: it's okay if you've forgotten about me and now you treat me like shit, i still love you.

My interpretation is that a girl thinks she is superior than him and has left him, starting to treat him like shit. But, deep down inside, he still loves her, that's why he'll put roses in her grave, even though what he gets from her is nothing but dead flowers. Yes, it can be about heroin. But you know, sometimes you got to look down and seek for your own interpretation. And that's mine.

its true that too many people say every song is about heroin, but this one is pretty obvious - you dont use a needle and a spoon for sewing and eating soup...

i think it's about him being rejected by a girl who thinks she's better than him because she's rich & upperclass. & no matter how much she thinks she's better than him & sticks her nose up to him, he'll always care abt her, so he turns to heroin to take the pain away. :/

And he's most certainly not saying I'll still love you when he says he'll put roses on your grave. That's obviously Keith's eloquent way of saying --"Fuck You you snotty fucker. You'll be dead and gone and I'll still be here shooting up and rockin!" . Also, piss can be substituted for roses in this case. You've missed the whole point.

Always loved this song, and my ex-girlfriend's name was Flower which makes this song all the more sweeter.

Keith Richards never really was a heroin user? Are you insane? The guy did it everyday for 20 years. He even got busted in Toronto for possetion of heroin in '77 and he did a concert for the blind to get outta jail. Keith Richards is one of the most notorius drug users of all time and that includes alcohol. And he survived it all. He can still functrion properly now unlike Ozzy Osbourne. Keith might be the toughest fucker on the planet. Anyways this song is sweet. They played it in concert when I saw them and Ron Wood played the slide lap guiytar. It was un.

OK Jumpy, maybe you are right. Keith Richards never really was a heroin user....that is all hype that he made up to help him sell his records. He never even drinks alocohol in real life. He drinks chocolate milk - I can prove it! Keith has lived in reality a very nerdy, somewhat introverted life, and would never dream doing the risky kinds of things most rock stars are known for... No way. Thats why this song is about after he gets dumped by a rich girl. She has the very best clothing - made of silk and so many other fine things in life - but all he has is his raggy clothes - so he goes down to his basement to lament his loss and fix up his clothes. Thats why he has a needle there - to do the sewing. And since Keith would never drink anything stronger than chocolate milk - he has a spoon there with him to mix up his nestle's quik while he is sewing his raggety clothing. Absolutely, Jumpy...this is definitely the REAL meaning of the song after all...

I believe Sirdon was being ridiculously sarcastic. But anyway, I absolutely adore this song... its freaking amazing! I agree that it is about heroin... maybe about using heroin to get over some rich girl who thinks she's better than him.
