I've commented on this song 3 time now but, does it drive anyone crazy that the video version of the song is so chopped up?

to me it means to try an be carefoul of the peole that sorrounds you, to be aware of people who like to lie and hurt everyone, of the pleasure of missleading and deceive. And how someone can forge a big lie to make believe that he is someone he is not, and that is to me unaceptable.

my boy sings this about my ex because he hates the way he hides behind everyone and uses them and lies.scary especially driving through town with it full blast in a big pick up truck.

This song sums up my thoughts on boys at the moment, so I agree with the first post. Its a guy lying to a girl and leading her on and continually hurting her. "and then you meet me and your whole world changes" - that's my favorite line.

The song isn't difficult to figure out, but it is a clever concept. It represents the inner feelings of a guy. It sounds like he's talking to the woman, but I think this is meant metaphorically; it's essentially an inner monologue. And I believe the message is that we are all liars, to some degree; we all misrepresent ourselves in relationships. I enjoy the way this song transitions from a "spoken word" style in the verses to a heavy metal chorus. The blending of styles is flawless, allowing the song to transcend all genre classifications. This is one of the few instances I've ever seen where a song is enhanced significantly by the music video. I myself didn't fully appreciate the song until I saw the video. The song and the video almost exist as a single concept, a rare feat. Finally, I'd like to point out that this song has elements of the classic "liar paradox."

i love the part when he goes from "realizing" he's caused so much pain, seeing "the destructive power of a lie" (funniest goddamn line in the whole song, by the way, considering what happens afterwards), and then the music gets aggressive again and he does that laugh... oh man, i lose it every time.

Small detail: IN the songs there's an out in this line: but the solitary refinement of your room spits you back [OUT] onto the streets

great song.... I hate people who just say that on posts, but yeah, it's self explanatory and one powerful song, so there. :)

I read Rollins' books and I always think " I really identify with you, so much" then I think about this song and realize I shouldn't let Hank or anyone else tell me who I am. Love this song.

I think this song i self explaintory to be quiet honest lol. I think it's about a lonely girl meeting this guy who is acting as her knight in shining armor. But it's all and act, he's a liar, he's no knight, he's an ass! And sadly it's just his nature to be bad to her but he in show way can't live without her but he's not going to change. i love this song, i love him...mmm-hmm.

Regarding the "I'll turn you into me" line, I take it as describing the tendency for victims to internalize and become that which controls or oppresses them in order to shift from object to subject status. In other words, the victim becomes the oppressor in order to reverse the tables of power. The archetype "Liar" knows this better than anyone else, though, so the balance of power remains the same and the victim's efforts are in vain. Ultimately, I think it's this underlying lie of the impossible victim-turned-oppressor that really gives this line meaning and it reminds me, "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster."
