"Instant Pleasure" as performed by Rufus Wainwright
Written by: Seth Swirsky
D A G
I don't want somebody to love me
D A G
Just give me sex whenever I want it
D C G F G D
'Cause all I asked for is instant pleasure, instant pleasure, instant pleasure
You in the traffic for all eternity
How could that speed be where you want to be
Said don't you really want instant pleasure, instant pleasure, instant pleasure
Bm A
Think that all these folks get laid?
Bm A
Do it 'cause the pay is great
G F#/D Em7
What you thinking anyway?
If drinkin' coffee's your idea of really cool
You can't expect no crazy chick to notice you
Just sittin' there dreamin' instant pleasure, instant pleasure, instant pleasure
Instant pleasure, instant pleasure
SOLO--same chords as verse
If you want someone a friend to be
Guess you'll have to win the lottery
But 'til then maybe, left to me
I don't want somebody to love me
Just give me sex whenever I want it
'Cause all I asked for is instant pleasure, instant pleasure, instant pleasure
Instant pleasure...

| I remember the first time I listened to this song. I kept thinking, "is that really what he's saying?" It has a great beat, danceable, and come on, you know it makes you smile listening to it. I had started to have a Rufus kick after hearing him in Moulin Rouge, and downloaded everything I could get my hands on. I wish he wrote it, though. | |

| I agree with the paint conjecture. If you listen to that part of the song, you can clearly hear something more forceful being sung than laid. A "P" sound, not an "L" sound. Anyway, would that be talking about artists who paint folks havin' sex? | |

| To me this song is all about how one just can't be passive and expect love to fall into your lap. You have to do something to make it happen, "...If drinkin coffee is your idea of really cool you can't expect no crazy chick to notice you ..." This song, along with other rufus songs like Imaginary Love are my favourite they seem to impart a realistic wisdom concerning love, it lets us empathize with his life and experiences. Almost all of his songs do this which why he could be consisdered one of the great songwriters of our time at least, if not in years and years to come. (I couldn't belive this was on the big daddy soundtrack ... BUT IT IS the scene with jon stewart putting on the roof of his apartment.) | |

| Haha. I agree with ChrissyTina. It's so much fun to just listen to the music, and bob your head along-- but then you listen to the lyrics.. and you laugh, because it is so very blatantly all about getting laid. | |

| Could he be anymore blunt about human nature? It's exactly what everyone longs for but the thing that most are afraid to admit. Through his blunt approach he gets his message across nicely. | |

| Actually I think the lyrics are wrong... I was so sure that it was "Think that all these folks that PAINT, do it cause the pay is great." The original song, written and sung by talented LA musician Seth Swirsky, included a line in which he says all he wants to do is paint, "but I heard the pay ain't great, think I'll do it anyway." I don't think its "laid." Though that seems cheekier and raunchier, I think the correct verb is "paint." Rufus did change around some of the lyrics (the original had the somewhat less blunt "All I want is somebody to love me, AND give me sex whenever I want it") I think he actually did retain the "paint" lyric. | |

| Well Rufus didn't actually write this song, but I agree with you. I like that it wasn't simply written for "shock value". Just actual thoughts put down on paper. | |

| A lot of my friends dont like Rufus Wainwright and think that I am so weird. But lyrics like these make me go crazy I just love him for his honesty. At one time in your life all you are going to want is Instant Pleasure. Its saying that Sex isnt always done for love. And I love it because everyone knows this is true and just wont say it. | |
