Yeah Neal Peart was really into that shit but this song's least important features are the lyrics because instrumentaly it's genius in every aspect. Brilliantly structured song and the drums are out of this world. It's hard to believe that during that main part where Neal's doing sixteenths on the hi-hat, that there are only 3 instruments being played when there is so much going on. Geddy Lee is also one of the greatest bass players in rock music as well as Peart on drums.

Actually, I just thought I'd mention the poem (Kubla Khan) is from Samuel Taylor Coleridge and its incomplete... you can read up about it it's pretty interesting.

Well, I can see how you dragged Beowulf into it, (which was a good book BTW), but it definitley has nothing to do with the song.. Samuel Taylor Coleridge is an awesome poet and his poem Kubla Khan is the poem to read to understand Neil's work. I think Kubla Khan isn't his best work, but it's still a good poem. Neil uses the story line to form his own lyrics. I just think that is so cool.. That man never ceases to amaze me.

A man (Kubla Khan himself prehaps? he could be speaking about himself in third person) gains immortality but then regrets it as he is forced to live with only himself as company in a thousand years. The pleasure dome he before dreamt of standing in now serves as his prison.

"This song is a Poem I belive by Beowolf." ...I'm speachless. That has gotta be the dumbest thing I've ever read. The poem is Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Kubla Khan" written/inspired from an opium-binge. Xanadu was the summer capital of Kublai Khan's empire. Lastly, Beowulf is an Anglo-Saxon epic poem by an unknown author about a Swedish hero who fights some monsters.
