Ryan Adams sings about Carolina in many of his songs, and this song (and others) takes on different meanings when you consider that it is also a woman's name. He is traveling around, lost, distracting himself from life with random cities and meaningless activities, hoping to return home to her.

this is such an incredibly amazing song, and i think ryan adams does it in such an elegantly longing, melancholy way that intensifies the lyrics so much more

This song is insane. I'm listening to it for only my second time right now... and it's definitely my new favourite. I think a lot of people should take a listen to it. It's very straight forward, pretty much what Hunter said, but it's longing for the south, Carolina to be specific. GIve it a listen if you happen to read this and you haven't listen. You definitely won't be disappointed.
