AN AMERICAN DRAFT DODGER IN THUNDER BAY Sam Roberts tabbed by AVH
Dmin
He was born in a small town
G Amin Emin
And he was given every reason to stay
Dmin G Amin Emin
Hallelujah, Mississippi, postcard living no sign of decay
Dmin G Amin Emin
Till Vietnam moved next door, then Hallelujah was off to war
Dmin
In the dream he couldn't finish the deed
G Amin Emin
He didn't smoke any weed so why leave?
Dmin Gmin A
Going where I can't be found
Dmin Gmin A
And I won't be coming 'round
Dmin
His father Tom said you better sign on
G Amin, Emin
You'd better take up your gun and fight
Dmin
I got nothing against them Viet Cong
G Amin Emin
What did they do wrong and why am I right?
Dmin
He's on his way to Thunder Bay
G Amin, Emin
Crossed the border late at night
Dmin
And it was high stakes until he saw the Great Lakes
G Amin, Emin
And he felt the cold wind bite
Dmin Gmin A
Going where I can't be found
Dmin Gmin A
And I won't be coming 'round
Dmin
No, I'm an American on the Canadian Shield
Bflat F A
And I'm putting down roots in your frozen fields
Dmin Bflat
It gets cold but you feel so good to be a stranger in a town and you're
F A
understood
Dmin
Missing his home, he would wake up in a cold sweat
Dmin G Amin, Emin
And pick up the phone and hope that Tom found a way to forget
Dmin
He's been teaching at the high school, learning the game
G Amin, Emin
In Thunder Bay we're all the same
Dmin
He's one of us, he has our trust
G Amin Emin
But there's no going back once the line is crossed
Dmin
I'm an American on the Canadian Shield
Bflat F A
And I'm putting down roots in your frozen fields
Dmin Bflat
It gets cold but you feel so good to be a stranger in a town and you're
F A
understood
Dmin
You can't ask what you're asking me to do
C F A
And I hope you understand when I refuse
Dmin
I'm going North with my point of view
C F A
And I'm never gonna think the same as you
Dmin C F A
And I'm where I can't be found
Dmin C F A
And I won't be coming 'round
Dmim
No, I'm an American on the Canadian Shield
Bflat F A
And I'm putting down roots in your frozen fields
Dmin Bflat
It gets cold but you feel so good to be a stranger in a town and you're
F A
understood

| This song is beautiful, and creative! It's about war, and somebody who doesn't agree with the war. He goes to Canada from the USA to escape the war in Vietnam. I love this song so much! I relate to "It gets cold, but you feel so good to be a stranger in town and your understood." because I know how it feels! Overall, I loved this song the most on Chemical City, and I think this should be all over the radios, but with my luck, it won't happen... Happy Friday the 13th! | |
