| actually.. the almighty Ant himself has spoken of how this song is basically about the time of his life during high school, up until his joining the band. none of his songs are about god.. he just uses a lot of religious imagery since he was raised Catholic. | |

| Original story by Anthony (singer): Maybe it'll be easier to get the meaning... "Taking on seven years that the holy ghost had left alone, assured that he'd be fine if he complied. To kick like crazy and test his arms, to see only if he could push his way off and fight. He yelled 'I've been trying way too long. I'm sorry, I'm not sure.' 'Tell him his eyes see too clear' said his mother, but he would find a way without her. These mistakes were golden to him, and he said 'I was right, but without you, I could never do it.' No longer would he staple his eyes and sell machines. 'I'm sorry, son. Don't think that I would accuse you. You're not to blame.' Getting this off my chest, the story now ends." Beautiful | |

| Does anybody else cry when they hear this song except me?! My friend finds the song pointless and we got in a big argument about it because music is my life but yeah acoustic version is like amazing yes i like hardcore music but when a hardcore song is sang softly i dunno it just feels like it gives the song more meaning because the artist is relaxed and you can really understand what he's saying. | |

| I like their acoustic songs...... He spent seven years trying to follow Jesus and failing. he's sorry he's not sure he believes. this song is getting all this stuff off his chest, and that's the last time he'll think about it.... the story ends He'll find a way through life wihtout jesus I think the "mistake" was his crucifying selling machines.... machines are like institutions of culture The ending.............. Don't treat me I'm to blame Don't treat me like i ever accused you It sounds like "don't treat me like I'm to blame," but he knows he is to blame, so he just says "I'm to blame" Don't treat him like he ever accused Jesus of... something.... lol I am not going to use any more imagination here... I am not positive this is the right interp, but what's up with "the holy ghost had left alone" it's gotta be a religious song :) | |

| It is not about god I dont believe. As stated on the lyrics for the nonacoustic version, it is about a father leaving his family from the sons point of view. Original story by Anthony Green (singer): "Taking on seven years that the holy ghost had left alone, assured that he'd be fine if he complied. You're not to blame.' Getting this off my chest, the story now ends." | |

| i love this version way more than the other. like somebody said earlier, this one brings out anthony's voice way better. i'm leaning towards the religion idea, although the explanation above ^ does make sense. i don't care what anyone thinks of this, but i personally think saosin's new album is a huge disappointment and well, anthony could've tackled it better. | |

| The first four lines are talking about the seven year tribulation that happens after the rapture where the Holy Ghost will not be in charge of what happens on earth. That's why the Anti-Christ is there. He talks about trying to go without God in his life, and thats his mistake. Then he goes to say he could never to it on his own. | |
