Song:Vikingland
Artist:Satyricon
Album:The Shadowthrone
Tabbed by:Asbeel@hotmail.com

Pretty staightforward song ... at first listen !! If your a crazy
perfectionist like me you will notice some strange
grooves in the middle and at the end . There seems to be no real pattern ,
but have no fear I will do It all because , yes
, I am that much of a guitar nazi . Some stuff you may prefer to play on the
G string ( tremelo riffs ) but I have It on d
because I prefer the tone , no other reason . Whatever tickles your pickle
.... Here we go .

Key:
v=vibrato
/=slide
pm=palm mute
h=hammer-on
p=pull-off
()=artificial harmonic

Riff 1x6
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
---7-7--7/5-7/8--7-7--7/5-7/8--7-7--7/5-7/8--7-7-7/8-8--
---7-7--7/5-7/8--7-7--7/5-7/8--7-7--7/5-7/8--7-7-7/8-8--
---5-5--5/3-5/6--5-5--5/3-5/6--5-5--5/3-5/6--5-5-5/6-6--

Riff 2x4 x8 pick very fast ,
----------------------------
----------------------------
----------------------------
---12-10-------13-12-13-12--
---------13-12--------------
----------------------------

Riff 2b x8 Octave lower
---------------------
---------------------
---------------------
---------------------
---5-3-----6-5-6-5---
-------6-5-----------

This is the first confusing part , just play It exactly how I have shown and
listen . You will see what I mean ...

Riff 3ax1
------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------
---7-7-7/5-7/8--7-7-7/5-5/3--7-7-7/5-7/8-7-7-7-8-7-8--
---7-7-7/5-7/8--7-7-7/5-5/3--7-7-7/5-7/8-5-5-5-8-7-8--
---5-5-5/3-5/6--5-5-5/3-3/1--5-5-5/3-5/6-------6-5-6--

Riff 3b x 3 Now the pattern starts:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---7-7-7-5-3--2-2-2-3-5-----7-7-7/5-7/8--7-7-7/5-5/3--7-7-7/5-7/8-7-7-7-8-7-8--
---7-7-7-5-3--2-2-2-3-5-----7-7-7/5-7/8--7-7-7/5-5/3--7-7-7/5-7/8-5-5-5-8-7-8--
---5-5-5-3-1--0-0-0-1-3-----5-5-5/3-5/6--5-5-5/3-3/1--5-5-5/3-5/6-------6-5-6--

Fill 1 x1 End It with this...
------------------------
------------------------
------------------------
---7-7-7-5-3--2-2-2-3-5-
---7-7-7-5-3--2-2-2-3-5-
---5-5-5-3-1--0-0-0-1-3-

Pick these next two riffs fast as well ...

Riff 5x4
-----------------------
-----------------------
-----------------------
--12-10----------------
--------13-12-13-8-10--
-----------------------

Riff 6x8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--12-10-12----12-10-12-13--12-10-12----12-10-12-13--12-10------------------------
-----------10-----------------------10--------------------13-12--13-12-10-9-10---
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the weird part , repeat Riff 3a and 3b twice , EXCEPT replace Fill 1
with this . Also on 3b . You will understand
when you listen ...
-------------------------------
-------------------------------
-------------------------------
--2--7-7-7-7/5-5/3-2-2--2-3-8--
--2--7-7-7-7/5-5/3-2-2--2-3-8--
--0--5-5-5-5/3-3/1-0-0--0-1-6--

Interesting interlude ...

Fun part

I have broken it into sections so the pattern will be easier to catch .

Riff 7a x2
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7----------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7----4-4-4-5-4-2-2-2---
--7-7-7--7--8-7--5--5-5-2--2-2-2-3-2-0-0-0---
------------------------0--------------------

Riff 7b x2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7--------------------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7----4-4-4-5-4-2-2-2--4-4-4-5-4--7-7777-6-66---6-7-7-7---
--7-7-7--7--8-7--5--5-5-2--2-2-2-3-2-0-0-0--2-2-2-3-2--7-7777-6-66-2-6-7-7-7---
------------------------0------------------------------5-5555-4-44-0-4-5-5-5---

Riff 7c x2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7----4-4-4-5-4-2-2-2--4-4-4/5-5-7-7-77-9-9/7-7-5-4-2-22--22-2-2--7-7-77-22-2-2--
--7-7-7--7--8-7--5--5-5-2--2-2-2-3-2-0-0-0--2-2-2/3-3-5-5-55-7-7/5-5-3-2-0-00--22-2-2--7-7-77-22-2-2--
------------------------0------------------------------------------------------00-0-0--5-5-55-00-0-0--

Play these In order and then repeat . EXCEPT ( this is what I mean about
confusing , folks ) second time through change
Riff 7c to this ...

Riff 7c x2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7----------------------------------------------------------------
--9-9-9--9-10-9--7--7-7----4-4-4-5-4-2-2-2--4-4-4/5-5-7-7-77-9-9/7-7-5-4-2-22--22-2-2--
--7-7-7--7--8-7--5--5-5-2--2-2-2-3-2-0-0-0--2-2-2/3-3-5-5-55-7-7/5-5-3-2-0-00--22-2-2--
------------------------0------------------------------------------------------00-0-0--

Yeah, Satyricon are great. They are one of the few Black Metal bands, of late, who seem to be really interested in exploring new territory, and who are not content, to simply re-hash the same thing over and over again.

I love the combonation of Viking Metal vocals and Black Metal vokills that Satyr uses in this song. When the chanting comes in at the end, I feel like such a Viking.
