| I can tell just by reading that the writer was going through a bad time. Obviously a significant relationship is completely gone, and he's feeling the anger and resentment that most do when something happy leaves you forever. | |

| i really like savage garden. theyre not my style at all, i dont know what it is. maybe its just this song. and 2 beds and a coffee machine. but the lyrics of this are just so bitter toward love. its only a reaction in your brain, and such. its so real. saying goodbye to love, the way we all do after getting shit on. but of course romance is beautiful, and of course we all find the habit again........... | |

| I absolutely adore this song.. This is one of those songs you listen to when you feel love means nothing to you.. that it doesn't exist. You want to 'gun down romance' but at the same time you dont' want that 'love to leave you'. It's just..it can relate to so many peoples lives, and it's true in so many ways. Love it, love it, and love it some more. | |

| I positively adore this song, it's definately in my top3 SG songs. It's dark and just different from so many of their other tunes but completely believable at the same time and they can pull the style off well. I wish they would have written more in this direction. I don't think it's about one specific breakup/event in that sense. But it works incredibly well as just this overall feeling you get after thinking one too many times about the bad side of love, how it burns you. Eventually you get bitter and start to thinking what is love? You tear it down to the most basic unfeeling level which is that it's technically just 'chemical reactions in your brain'. He's begging love to come rescue him from these thoughts. I'm gunning down romance It never did a thing for me But heartache and misery Ain't nothing but a tragedy This song gives me the shivers. I know what it's like to feel like this. Amazing stuff. And yeah Darren was married to a woman named Colby for a period of time. They were college sweethearts I believe? | |

| This is one of Savage Garden's most powerful and moving songs. Not their first, but quite possibly their last. It has a dark, cold, bleak, and miserable feel to it. You can literally feel Darren's heartbreaking desperation to hold on to a single spark of something pure and good. He cries out "Love don't leave me" several times, each time crooning it devastatingly. This song feels as if he is clinging desperately to one small hope that this incredible pain won't leave him jaded forever. He knows his marriage is over and the sad part is that he doesn't seem to be dwelling on that. His pain and sorrow in this song seems to be geared more toward his losing faith in love itself and he's trying so hard not to give up on it. Even through all the jaded and bitter words and lines, you can see that he still has hope; that he's still trying not to fall apart, and that's what makes "GDR" so incredibly moving. You can literally see how strong his will is throughout this song. In the beginning he is bitter and angry and in the end it seems he's reached a revelation. All through the song he takes you through this dark and cold journey and then at the end he shows you this light and all at once you feel warm. I know it sounds cheesy, but it's the best I can describe it. It's as if through this song, he's recieved enlightenment. Definately an underappreciated song. Most people think it's an angry rant of a song, but I think it's Darren's version of therapy and you can see his changes and progress throughout it. | |

| It's one of those songs that transport you...And yes, I believe you appreciate it more once you've been burned, and once you've reached a certain age...How the sound becomes more and more obscure and powerful takes your breath, and the words "I'm gonna take this broken wings...and learn to fly...and learn to fly away..." leaves you with hope...that you will get over it one day, and you will find yourself able to love again. One of my all-time Savage Garden favourites, probably underappreciated. | |

| I'm suspecting that he wrote this shortly after his wife and him divorced, and he says he's a romantic at heart, and he says he's gunning it down as he sees it as doing him harm. but yes he sounds hurt and angry. | |

| This song is one of my favourites, it's so cold to describe love as a 'chemical reaction in your brain'. Its obviously a very angry song about being alone saying that the social standard is to be in a couple and he doesnt like being alone. The musics great with this song too. | |

| I love this song. The way it just perfectly describes that wanting to love and be loved in return, and the devotion that goes into it. and the sudden almost knee jerk reaction to being scorned by love to want to beat up the emotion. | |

| this is probably one of savage gardens darkest songs, it's so emotional, like all their songs, and i'm pretty sure it is about Darren breaking up with his wife. the first few times i heard it i never really appreciated it fully, but over the past few years, it's meant more and more to me, i supose, now that i'm older i can relate to it more, well, that's my two cents anyway | |

| I dont think its specifically about any one thing to be honest... Speaking hypothetically here, A guy is in love, but then the love is lost, and he starts thinging, "love doesnt exist" its just a chemical reaction in your brain. So he falls down deeper. So alone, he gets worse and is wanted to feel okay, "love dont leave me" But then realises, it was romance, love, that made him this way anyhow. And his wings are broken, so he cant get back up... So he knows hes gunna have to fly away. | |
