THIS SIDE OF ME
(Savage Garden)
Notes:
What a song to practice your minor chords (!). There were some parts where I had
trouble telling whether to insert a major or minor chord, and there are other
parts which I am 100% sure that it is right. If you figure out something else,
let me know!

| Eirenightshade, I agree with both of your theories. It could be about some kind of affair. But I've ALWAYS thought he was talking about his partner letting him do something that was somehow forbidden. You can feel the urgency, the longing for it. And this naughty-dark-sexual tone was actually a very important factor of the seduction that Savage Garden was about (at least at the beggining - then after TMD and IKILY they started to be seen like familiar-sweet balladists). But this sound is truly delicious for us listeners, you can easily get lost in this confusing-tempting atmosphere. | |

| Oh my god. This is my fav. song ever. Why haven't more people written. This is so clearly about a homosexual relationsship, and actually that's why I write today. I just want to congratulate Darren, I love him so much more for finally telling us all what we allready knew and getting married to the man he loves. | |

| I've heard several interesting theories on the meaning of this song. One line in particular, "I want to stitch my clothes in sin and in the dark", has raised a lot of suspicion as to whether or not the song's about a secret extra-marital affair. (Stitch my clothes being a reference to a scarlet letter). Certainly other lines such as "Just one time, one time, let my body do what it feels", "I want to find that door and go within", and "Let this fantasy become real" back up that theory quite nicely. Also, if I may be frank, one of the first things that came to mind when I heard this song is that it's likely about a very specific sexual act that the lyricist wants to fulfill that his lover refuses him. He's saying he's not afraid to let her see this side of him, a side which may be primal and kinky. He's sort of pleading with his lover in this song to let him fulfill this sexual fantasy of his, but his unspoken lover seems apprehensive and maybe too conservative to indulge him. To me, the latter seems like the more likely. In the beginning, Darren is being sweet and loving, and then gradually he gets more and more frustrated and pleading, which makes me believe there's something deeply naughty he wants that he ain't getting! | |

| Awesomely sexy song!. This one is an old b-side (included in 'Truly Madly Completely') and sum up the feeling of the early SG stuff. Dark, full of sensuality, dreamlike. In the same style of 'Mine'. Love it!. | |
