Sawyer Brown is a country music band formed in 1981. It is led by vocalist Mark Miller plus drummer Joe Smyth, keyboardist Gregg (Hobie) Hubbard, and bassist Jim Scholten. The only change to its members has been the addition of guitarist Duncan Cameron who joined after Bobby Randall left in 1991.
The band took its name from a street in the city of Nashville, Tennessee. Sawyer Brown achieved national recognition when they won the 1984 Star Search television show singing contest. After winning, the band was signed by Curb Records.
Sawyer Brown were named the top vocal group of 1996 by the Academy of Country Music. That same year, Sawyer Brown did a cover of the Beach Boys' 1964 hit "I Get Around" with the Beach Boys themselves doing harmonies and backing vocals. This cover appeared on the Beach Boys' now out-of-print 1996 album " Stars and Stripes Vol. 1".
In 2003, they signed with Lyric Street Records.
Their hits include: Betty's Being Bad, Somewhere in the Night, The Race is On, This Time, I'm in Love with Her, Dirt Road, Cafe on the Corner, Thank God for You, Hard to Say, This Night Won't Last Forever, Six Days on the Road, Some Girls Do, Lookin' for Love, All These Years, and Go Anywhere (With You).
