G#minor 9 F#minor add4
Mean Mr. Mustard says he’s bored
E 5th/flat 5
of life in the District
G#minor 9 F#minor add4
Can’t afford the French Quarter high
E 5th/flat 5
says it gets old real quick
G#minor 9 F#minor add4
and he pales up next to me
E 5th/flat 5
scrawled on the pavement
G#minor 9 F#minor add4
It says: son, time is all
E 5th/flat 5 E
the Luck you need.
0:53 - 1:18
CHORUS:
B Bmajor7
And if I stay Lucky then my tongue
G#minor
will stay tied, and I won’t betray
F# E
the things that I hide.
B Bmajor7
There’s not enough years underneath
G#minor F#
this belt, for me to admit the way
E
that I felt.
1:19 - 2:12
G#minor 9 F#minor add4
Mean Mr. Mustard says don’t be
E 5th/flat 5
the wave that crashes
G#minor 9 F#minor add4
From a sea of discontent, he says
E 5th/flat 5
he’s wrestled with that blanket...
G#minor 9
It leaves you cold and wet
F#minor add4 E 5th/flat 5
any way you stretch it
G#minor 9 F#minor add
Divine apathy! Disease of my youth
E 5th/flat 5 E
watch that you don’t catch it.
CHORUS repeated 2:13 - 2:36
2:37 - 3:03
F# E *on the E chords, let ring, &
And I'm the wave that crashes... strum the strings one by one
F# E from the high E, B, G
>From a sea that turns itself
F# E
And inside out every chance I get to
F# E
See what it's like in Hell
CHORUS repeated 3:04 - end.

| There is a reference I think to the movie "Dead Poets Society". The shy boy recites the poem about a blanket that leaves you cold no matter how you stretch it. The guide for the narrator is an addict (french quarter high), poor, and knowledgable. Experience and caring (rather than luck and apathy) are the most important things in life. | |

| the Rockcrown album is 7mary3"s best record, and this is the best song off that record.. i agree about the comments, but my two cents: the song for me is more about getting older and leaving your angst behind you.. (time is all the luck you need- this means that if you live long enough then you'll have your good times, even after a whole lifetime of mess that you have made yourself... | |

| http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=870 Mean Mr. Mustard is clearly a reference to the Beatles song; a jaded and cheap homeless guy. | |
