Sorry... but I'm against the crowd here... the English is slightly better than the Spanish... but the Arabic's in both so... I dunno, maybe I just prefer English spoken songs... oh, well, dearies.

What is this english crap. This song was about 92 times better in spanish. but none the less, I will always be shakira's biggest fan.

I dunno about the first two, but I know ebony is a synonym for black. Crossed a river of salt could be the Dead Sea...but it's a sea not a river...so I dunno. I tried and failed miserably...sorry.

I like both versions, but the English version sounds a little "flat" to me. It's pretty clear that it's not her first language, and that the lyrics were made to fit the English language in this version. It sounds natural in Spanish, and much richer.

The English is good, but it does sound even better in Spanish. But until I learn the Spanish version (I think my husband has it), I'll keep singing in English. P.S. This song reminds me of my hubby. I love his brown eyes!

The only part to me that makes sense in this song is the chorus and the arabic part.

I agree with nillad this song is amazing in Spanish. The english version sounds like a piece of schizznick. Really doesn't do the song any justice.

Sorry, I am doing it again: Oh, you know I have seen A sky without sun A man with no nation Saints captive in chains A song with no name For lack of imagination Ya he, ya he, ya la he And I have seen Darker than ebony Ya he ya he ya la he And now it seems that I Without your eyes could never be My one desire, all I aspire Is in your eyes forever to live Travelled all over the seven oceans There is nothing that I wouldn't give Came from Bahrein, got to Beirut Looking for someone comparing to you Tearing down windows and doors And I could not find eyes like yours Rabboussamai fikarrajaii Fi ainaiha aralhayati Ati ilaika min haza lkaaouni Arjouka labbi labbi nidai Came from Bahrein, got to Beirut Looking for someone comparing to you Tearing down windows and doors And I could not find eyes like yours Oh, you know I have seen A woman of means and rags And begging for pleasure Crossed a river of salt The specter, I rode The ship that sank In the desert Ya he, ya he, ya la he And I have seen Darker than ebony Ya he ya he ya la he And now it seems that I Without your eyes could never be My one desire, all I aspire Is in your eyes forever to live Travelled all over the seven oceans There is nothing that I wouldn't give Came from Bahrein, got to Beirut Looking for someone comparing to you Tearing down windows and doors And I could not find eyes like yours Rabboussamai fikarrajaii Fi ainaiha aralhayati Ati ilaika min haza lkaaouni Arjouka labbi labbi nidai Came from Bahrein, got to Beirut Looking for someone comparing to you Tearing down windows and doors And I could not find eyes like yours Rabboussamai fikarrajaii Fi ainaiha aralhayati Ati ilaika min haza lkaaouni Arjouka labbi labbi nidai Looking for someone Comparing to you Tearing down Windows and doors And I could not Find eyes like yours Rabboussamai fikarrajaii Fi ainaiha aralhayati Ati ilaika min haza lkaaouni Arjouka labbi labbi nidai Min Bahrain ela Beirut Looking for someone comparing to you Tearing down windows and doors And I could not find eyes like yours My one desire, all I aspire Is in your eyes forever to live Travelled all over the seven oceans There is nothing that I wouldn't give Came from Bahrein, got to Beirut Looking for someone comparing to you Tearing down windows and doors And I could not find eyes like yours

i aint trying too hard too fit in. =) okay you caught me. alright. the truth about the song in my opinion. its, okay in english, but mostly the beat. face it, the lyrics really dont make any sense. it sounds like they just tryed too hard to rhyme everything. its not really "crap" but its not as good as spanish. so sorry if i offended anyone.

Never heard the Spanish version, but I like the English version. Its got a nice 'forgien' feel to it, which I like in songs. This is one of my favourtie songs on the album, and I stand by that, so don't tell me that I'm blind or something because I'm going against you people.

this has to be my favorite shakira song. i have been a huge fan for a long time, but this song remains my favorite (though i do enjoy estoy aqui). personally, i like both versions pretty much equally. I don't understand why you say the lyrics don't make sense though Tracy (not to rag on you or anything). She's just saying she has traveled to so many places and seen so many things, but she has never seen anyone who can match up to the person she is speaking to in the song. Some of the lyrics might not make perfect sense because it is translated though (did i just contradict myself...*sigh*).

are you people deaf??? OMG the english verrsion is terrible. I love Shakira and I applaud her for making an effort. I blame the producer.. who the heck let her rocord this song and put it on the album? It needs to be reworked. It could be alot better. The english lyrics are ok, But the song was written in spanish and sounds alot more beautiful and much more poetic that way. Its the same idea but the english one is too literal. None the less I hope everyone listens to the spanish one before making an opinion about this one.
