Band: Shinedown
Song: In Memory
Tabbed by: SelfDestruct
Tuning: DADGBE
There aren't many shinedown tabs out there so I figured I would tab some out for people
wanting to play their songs... This isn't perfect but close enough to get you started
(I really didn't have alot of time to analyze it thoroughly)
Strumming patterns also not included...
* Harmonic
/ Slide
Opening Riff/Pre-Verse:
G------5----------------5------------
D--01-0x-03-06-066--01-0x-03-06/866--
A--01-03-03-06-066--01-03-03-06/866--
D--01-0--03-06-066--01-0--03-06/866--
then ring out with
G-5-
D-5-
A-3-
D---
and into...
Verse:
G-55555555-777/888888---55555555-777/333333---55555555-777/888888--777/888888-
D-55555555-777/888888---55555555-777/111111---55555555-777/888888--777/888888-
A-33333335-555/666666---33333333-555/111111---33333335-555/666666--555/666666-
D-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prechorus:
G-------------
D-8888-333333-
A-8888-333333-
D-8888-333333-
Chorus:
G-8----5----8----3-
D-8----5----8----1-
A-6----3----6----1-
D-6----3----6----1-
^ can also play last chord one octave higher, sounds good with two guitars, barring with
pointer and lifting ring finger occasionally adds to the sound as well
Bridge:
G----------------------------
D-------------------5*5*5*5*-
A-11-------11----------------
D-11-0-5/3-11-0-5/3----------
The last time is played I believe something like...
G------------------------------
D------------------------------
A-11-------------------------0-
D-11-0-5/3-0-5/3-0-3/1-0-3/1-0-
And that's pretty much it...

| You nailed it, Outlaw. Though I do have a few other ideas that are different. I think this is about an ending relationship. "Some of the ugliest things Took the longest time to make And some of the easiest habits Are the hardest ones to break..." I think line is basically talking about the whole relationship in general. It took a long time to get as far as they did, but it turned out ugly in the end. "And I'm not asking for value Nor the pain But I am asking For a way out of this lie..." He doesn't want the pain, he just wants out. Though I think it means that the relationship has become a lie, I think it also means that she's been lying to him in some way. "Your feeding your ego With what you can see outside And you're killing yourself For not speaking your mind..." She felt something was wrong with the relationship, and he sensed that, but she lied and wouldn't speak her mind, and she's killing herself and him. "I will not justify your ways I cannot show you an escape I do not know you any more I never knew you anyway..." Self explanatory. She stabbed him in the back, and it's now as though he never knew her. This is basically an exact, on the friggin' nose description of what happened to me just a week ago. Actually, a week ago tomorrow. She stabbed me in the back, but it's now as though I never knew the girl. | |

This is such a powerful song, Brent puts such emotion behind this song, it's amazing. You can always feel the emotion when he's singing. Absolutely incredible, give this song a shot!!! | |

| After the first listen, this song seems to be about a relationship ending. Personally i could have used the last part for one of my own. Its kinda like something went wrong, something the other person did, and now they are back, and realize their error, and want everything peachy again. But the songwriter is saying no, and is being smart, he knows what happened, he knows its not forgiveable, and he knows that being peachy with the person will solve nothing, and only bring him more anguish. Looking at some more of the lyrics, mainly the second verse, it seems the songwriter has started over. He saw what happened, realized mistakes he had made, and is smarter and better off. His ego is fed by his healing and that the person wants back, and he knows he controls the cards, but yet he isnt totally done yet, he still has stuff on his chest, stuff that needs to be said, but that he cant, hes afraid of hurting the person, which pisses him off even more, hence killing himself for not speaking his mind. | |
