Personally I think its something along the lines of going to a therapist, when they don't want to. "So take while you can So you can meet demands My insanity is what you thrive on" That what there is pretty much what they do. They feed off of your 'insanity' taking more money from you, making you believe your problems are more then they are, giving you more meds and taking more money. paying their 'peers' "So rip it from my soul So everyone will know in the end I'm the break you're the bend" They always try to be-friend you, But its just apart of their job, its their mask. Thats my oppinion

He is talking about being with someone for a long time and then finding out they aren't who they say they are.

This has to be my favorite Shinedown song, for the stanza that says "Have you ever felt lost inside/So unloved within/That you almost die?". I believe the song's about the people who repress you, how difficult it is to believe you're a person too sometimes... And I have to add that this song is BRILLIANT live (I just got home from my 3rd Shinedown concert =P)

I think everyone can relate to this quote..."Have you ever stepped out of the light and realized there's a stranger inside? " Sometimes you realize your not being you and it is just better to be yourself. A lot of people think the way other people want them to think. It is a good moral...think and like yourself not like someone else.

Notice how NOBODY says anything bad about Shinedown... No one says they sold out, or they suck, or anything. Truly one of the great bands of today, keep it going guys.

Yea, but I think that him not knowing himself builds on the idea that he's unsure of himself after what happened, and after being betrayed like that, he's starting to question if even he is the best judge of character. I also think that when he says, "In the end we were never friends," it could also be spoken towards the girl. He's si amazingly pissed off that she'd let his friend take her and do what he's done that when she gives him the classic, "I still want to be friends," he basically is saying back, "We were never friends." It's sort of a sense of finality that he's officially done with her. I love this song, man. Between this and "In Memory," my last relationship has been covered in full. She lied to me, said we were good, when in reality she was foolin' around with a guy that before I had considered a good guy, and not necessarily a close friend, but a friend. And when she said she wanted to be friends, I basically said exactly what this song is saying. Definitely one of the best if not THE best song on Leave A Whisper.

I personaly would take this song to another level of understanding. I don't believe that when you are writing a song it has to be to any one person or specific type of person (i.e. gf/bf). I rather think of this song in broader terms, as it is talking to the idea of cliques, groups of people and the need to belong. I feel as though this song talks about how you are trying to fit in, find your place in the world, which requires you to make decisions and choices and have opinions on things that you have no idea about and you are trying to fit in and belong b/c you need it but that it is hard to do that and it's a big struggling point for a lot of people b/c you don't necessarily know who you are, how you belong and have opinions on these things. it gets confusing b/c you have so many choices to make and alot of people trying to help you or force you to make these decisions based upon their ideas or just b/c they want to follow this one central idea or plain want to help you fit it. sometimes you choose to follow others and find yourself alone or angry at the choices you have made and other times you do not make a choice and have nothing. either way, in the end you feel more lost and unsure of yourself and feel as though you have no clue about your life, therefore there is a stranger inside.

I think theres a deeper meaning to this song. Like he's feeling invaded by himself. Like he doesn't even know himself. The part where Brent sings "have you ever felt lost inside" he could be confused, or unaware of what path to take.

This song kind of confused me. Where it said "So unloved within", I thought it said "So in love with him"... I only realized that the song is not about a guy just now, seeing the lyrics. Sheesh.

First off this song is awesome and its great to see a band go back to good old fashioned Rock. Now to me this song is about a guy and his girl. To me it sounds like a friend or someone close stole his girl from him. I dont know just my thouhgts. "So rip it from my soul. So everyone will know. In the end we were never friends.'' those lines seem to supports my thoughts...Also the this verse "Don't push your ignorance on me. I'm not unrehearsed to your jealousy. And I know you think I don't see the signs Well how do you know, do I look blind?" Could be talking about the friend and how he knows hi did this to him
