| i'm not really concerned about why shinedown wrote this song, this is what it means to me. it's about those people who give you advice based on how they fucked up in life, instead of letting you learn. this is the person receiving the advice telling them there's nothing they can't do and won't do, and they're fearless of the failure. | |

| For me, it's all about being a teenager. Testing the limits (I dare you to tell me to do that...I dare you to) and also becoming who you are (Paint me your canvas so I become who you could never be) Also, about earning the trust of peers, and how to hang on to old friends, and make new friends. Basically, it's high school. | |

| my first impression of this song is that maybe he is saying to God, "I dare you to test me" - "One says yes, one says no Decide - which voice in your head you can keep alive" Angel/Devil - Who do you listen to? "I dare you, God, to see if I am faithful to You or not. " | |

| I actually saw shinedown in concert with godsmack... they said this song was inspired by taking a trip to iraq and performing for the troops over there, the day in day out grind that they endure and what kind of sacrifice they make everyday but still being committed enough to serve their country, "walking through fire" | |

| You can tell that the writer had a lot of writer's block on this album, it shows on pretty much every song but this one. Writer's block in song writers usually ends with them producing a huge hit (such as this song or for instance the Goo Goo Dolls' Johnny Reznik had horrible writer's block before producing "name", which became a #1 hit) or fading away and never producing any more material. I'm glad that Shinedown at least produced this awesome song on their last album. I know it has nothing to do with the songs intended meaning, but I'll always remember this song from being the theme from WWE Wrestlemania last year. It was such a fitting song. | |

| i think this song is about a relationship where a girl is unsure as to whether she wants to stay or go. the guy wants her to make a decision (decide which voice in your head you can keep alive), but wants to prove that he can be what she wants him to be (paint me your canvas so i become...). he also wants to show her his devotion, wants to prove what hes willing to do (i dare you to tell me to walk through fire). her thoughts are still unclear. | |

| I think it's about a relationship in which the person he's talking to is trying to steer him in a particular direction. He may not want to go that way, but the person has the best intentions. He's saying-- go ahead and tell me what you want me to do but that doesn't mean I'll actually do it. | |

| Well this song could be about an athlete in any sport. The athlete is on the verge of the end of his or her carrer and younger athlete takes his or her place down in history. The younger antlete is cocky and say "Paint me your canvas so I become What you could never be" In other word i will go more far into this sport than you. "Some stay young, some grow old" is another clue. the older athete answer back to the young athlete by saying "I dare you to tell me to walk through the fire Brand my soul and call me a liar I dare you to tell me to walk through the fire I dare you to tell me I dare you to" In other word i've been there before you and you just take my soul and follow my footsteps. It actually could also be about a relationship ending in a bad way. The guy still love the girl in a twisted kind of way and can'T stand her seeing her with another man and see his ex going on with her life while him is still trapped in his childhood in the past. Both intepretation work. | |

| Could this song possibly be reflecting on his good thoughts and bad "conscience"; you know like the little angle and the devil that sit on opposite sides of your shoulders, "One says yes, one says no". This is just an idea. Get the ball rolling. Whats your input | |

| actually moedaddy was right they interviewed shinedown on squizz on xm radio and he said that this song was written while he was having the worst writters block of his life. he was scared because he never knew when it would end. a friend of his was a firefighter. so he got the inspiration to write this song while thinking about what that firefighter must think about as he runs into a burning building while everyone else wants out how he thinks of his family, his friends, the people in the building, his coworkers. | |

| It's so unfair that a band like Shinedown, in my opinion one of the best bands of today, does not share in the popularity of the shit bands like Green Day put out. Why!? I wish I understood... | |
